to QSWAT+

Hi everyone,

I’m preparing my MacBook Air (Apple Silicon M3) for the September SWAT+ Beginner Workshop and I’m having trouble getting QSWAT+ to work properly.

My setup is:

  • macOS, Apple Silicon M3
  • QGIS 3.44.13-Solothurn
  • QSWAT+ 4.0.1
  • SWAT+ Editor 4.0.2 / SWAT+ rev. 62
  • SWAT+ Toolbox 4.0.0

QSWAT+ opens normally and I can select New Project. However, after choosing the project directory, it gets stuck at “Restarting project…”. Shortly afterwards, the QGIS window becomes completely black and unresponsive, and I have to force quit it.

I also noticed the following error in the QGIS Log Messages:

ValueError: numpy.dtype size changed, may indicate binary incompatibility. Expected 96 from C header, got 88 from PyObject

The traceback points to polygonizeInC2 while importing the HRUs module.

QGIS is using Python 3.12.11 and NumPy 2.4.4, both bundled with QGIS.

I tested QGIS separately with the Mary Creek dem30.tif example dataset and it displays normally, so the black screen only seems to occur after starting a new project through QSWAT+.

Has anyone successfully used QSWAT+ 4.0 with QGIS 3.44 on an Apple Silicon Mac, or encountered the same issue?

Since QGIS 3.44 LTR and SWAT+ Tools 4.0 are the versions specified for the September workshop, I’d really appreciate any advice on the correct Mac installation/build to use.

Thanks!
