Hello all,

I just wondered if anyone has had any experience displaying text like an autocue or teleprompter on an ipad that could be cued from Qlab via OSC.
If not via a wireless network then maybe using an ipad Apple camera adapter and having that hard.wired via CAT5?
I did read a while back that one could send a text string into TouchOSC and that's one way to go but just wondered if there was something slightly easier?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers, J :)

The best solution may be an  iPad teleprompter app, with the text  stored on the iPad controlled by QLab

There are many ipad teleprompter apps at a variety of price points from 0 to 100 bucks.
What you want to do and how much you want to spend will narrow down the choice considerably.

Here's one solution
Joe Allen's Teleprompter Pro

running on an ipad, controlled by QLab through script commands which emulate the Teleprompters web browser interface.

e.g.Start/Stop is

do shell script "curl -L " & "http://192.168.1.28:8080/?control=startStop"

If you don't need scrolling text and just need the text to refresh screen by screen, on cue,  then the QLab/TouchOSC method, is actually very straightforward to set up and is probably the easiest method of all.

Thanks Micpool!
Is there an archived discussion with the use of TouchOSC for this purpose?

There are 2 problems with TouchOSC for this.

Each TouchOSC text field can only show 1 line of text, and each line is center justified

Depending on what you want to do there may be a better alternative. These would include an OSC controlled app that can do multiline text like Lemur, or just using QLab text cues to a Syphon surface and using NDISyphon on the mac to send to NDI monitor running on the ipad.

Or perhaps the teleprompter app I detailed in my previous post  is actually the best solution.

If you give some more details of your project, i.e what text you want to display, how do you want to control it, and who are you displaying it for and why, then it will be easier to recommend the best solution.

You may also find these links useful:

which is a solution you could use with NDISyphon.

and

which has a lot of detail which isn't relevant to your project, but shows how to display text on iPads, using TouchOSC, Lemur and Open Stage Control.
