All,

I'm currently evaluating the interest in a remote control solution I'm developing.

I'm specifically building an app which is able to control several devices (e.g. scaler, switcher) from some manufacurers (Extron, Kramer, Analog Way) using serial/ethernet. Think of Q-Lab "Lite" with cues controlling those devices and those cues being activated by MIDI or OSC:

Is there any interest at all in such a thing?

Best Regards,

Udo

Hi Udo,

I can tell you that in the Figure 53 chat room we all instantly started saying "yes! yes! yes!" :-)

Hi Christopher,

I assume this means I'll continue. :-)

Any hints which devices are "a must". I do have access to some of the devices mention above myself. Not sure what's common "in the field" though. Any recommendations?

Best Regards,

Udo

Hi Udo,

I've been doing such things for years with Qlab with standalone control-a-trons for various devices. Most of my work had been automating trade show booths and theme park/haunted house like stuff.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Hi Udo,

Control of common projector commands like lamp on/off and shutter open/close for Barco, Christie, Panasonic projectors etc. would be as equally useful as control of matrices and switchers.

Hi Huw,

I wasn't even aware that there were projectors with such features. On the hunt for the documentation now ...

Thanks,

Udo

Hi Udo,

Yes indeed. 90% of our projectors are controlled using RS232. The Panasonic PT series (e.g. PT-DS100XE) is what we have in hire stock and although you can control them using apple scrips, when triggering multiple shutter closes they tend to stagger, whereas RS232 is pretty much instant across multiple units so RS232 is always preferable.

If you need any more info please feel free to contact me off list.

Hi Udu,
Without a doubt a very usefull app.
- projector controll for, Barco, Panasonic, Christie, Benq, Infocus, Optoma,...
- Switcher control for Barco, Extron, Kramer, Analogue way, TV-one, ATEM (only over IP),...
- A standard RS232 (which could be adressed easily in hex or ascii) for ie relay switches etc...

This would be great and I wouldn't mind paying for it!

Regards,

Gilles

All,

thanks for all your feedback. I'd say there is definitely interest in such a solution. I'll try to wrap up my home-grown stuff into something I dare giving out to others as soon as I can.

Regarding the form-factor ... using Multi-Serial Devices (4+ interfaces; PCI or USB doesn't matter) can still be PITA ... so would you prefer an app where you would have to deal with integrating those devices in a reliable manner on your own or would you prefer some preconfigured stuff which simply works (and blame somebody else if it doesn't)?

Thanks,

Udo
