Hello all

I'm wondering how easy / difficult it would be for Qlab to recieve a video and audio signal from a separate computer and project / play the audio.

And if it's possible with one computer, how many could you scale this too?

To recap, have a central "hub" mac running Qlab, and then 1 or more computers plugged into the mac that can then select which computer to send yo the projector and audio board.

A solution that is not CPU intensive on the "slave" computers is a plus.

I have't tried this myself, but it should be possible to run Camtwist (http://camtwiststudio.com) on the same machine and insert the rendered output into Qlab as a cam source via Syphon.

That way you use tools for what they are designed for and do well.

Again: I haven't tried this.

I don't see how this is getting the video  from another Mac across the network. Am I missing something?

You are right. But there was just a thread here on how to use syphon over network. Ooooor he could use some video in hardware.

My point is that if he can get the vid stream into Qlab he can get it into another piece of sowtware to. And that should work today and probably work quite well.

Now; the real question is: Could we get a network video stream que in Qlab? THAT would be snazy...

So 2 questions so far, the idea is that would get a syphon video feed over the network. Does that ibclude audio from the slave computer?

And does that mean the slaves have to be macs?

Syphon was not originally designed to route data over a network connection, and to the best of my knowledge all current solutions to do so are considered experimental, and would have far too much latency to use in a show-critical environment. I would not advise doing so.

The only reliable way I can advise to get video from one computer into another would be to use a Blackmagic interface with an HDMI interface, which you could feed with the HDMI output of another computer. That can work quite well. I'm not certain if that would support the audio transport over HDMI, or if you'd need a separate audio interface. I suspect one of my teammates, or another user here, with more direct Blackmagic experience may be able to shed more light on that part of things.

Best always,
Andy

My experience with the Blackmagic Mini Recorder is that it also includes audio via HDMI. I think Qlab can route this audio using a 'Mic cue' but I'm not sure.

One day I wondered if it was possible to input 4 live SDI-streams into my Macbook. Some hours of research later... It might be possible using the PCIe 'Blackmagic DeckLink Quad" and a Magma ExpressBox 1T (PCI-e to Thunderbolt2). ± $1500,- Sadly enough, I've never found someone who was into sponsoring this :-(

Or just take the new Mac Pro and buy 4 of those Mini Recorders.

Note: blackmagic mini recorder only accepts some of the HDMI-formats. My guess is, if the HDMI-stream includes audio, it will accept it. So older macbooks without support for HDMI+Audio won't do. Then you'll might need an adapter USB+DP to HDMI (usb providing audio..). Just like most Blackmagic devices won't accept the triplehead2go DVI signal.

Also, Resolume Arena does a great job for switching. I generally prefer using Arena for live-video, due to the effects you can apply.
I hope it might help you.
