I got very excited at first glance, thinking this would be controlling a switcher from QLab. Alas, I can still contribute to this part of it.
I have two Mac minis going into an ATEM 2 M/E 4k, one running two displays out. That one runs QLab doing automated lower thirds, announcements, the like. The other one I have doing control of the rig (some via QLab), and running the Dugan plugin for Waves. That’s another story.
Anyway, the problem I ran into getting signal out of a Mac and into the ATEM, is making sure the output was at the right framerate. I initially tried using 3 BMD HDMI-SDI converters, but couldn’t get the mini to output 1080i59.97, rather only 1080i60. I could’ve changed the resolution/framerate to work, but the rest of my rig was already tied to 59.97. I ended up using three DataVideo DAC-70s instead. Those boxes are outstanding! They will take any input (HDMI, SDI, VGA) and convert/scale it to the correct resolution/framerate, and output it as HDMI and SDI. It sends the mini the right EDID as well, so it doesn’t have to scale, though it can.
Before I got the DAC-70s, I got things working with SwitchResX, and that was fine, but a bit touchy. I wanted to set up something I didn’t have to worry about handing over to a colleague, so I wanted something more simple. I know there are other boxes, but the DAC-70 is really nice.
