Hi there,

Have not used QLAB2 much, as my needs are usually quite simple, but I am interested in the possibility of having ITUNES playback coming in on a MIC CUE which can then be faded out using a FADE cue.

Basically, this set up is for a corporate show where I have to have looping music (off ITUNES) playing and then when the talent is ready, I need to fade this and play their WALK UP TRACK

Currently I am having to use the VOLUME SLIDER in ITUNES and fade this down before triggering a CUE in QLAB.

I would ideally like to be able to fade out ITUNES as the WALK UP COMES in.

Can SOUNDFLOWER or similar be used to import??? Not sure if this is an option.....

Any ideas or suggestions would be gladly appreciated.

Best regards

PHIL

Why is iTunes involved? Why not just import all the music to QLab?

Why not just put the walk in music in QLab?

Hi guys, thank you for the suggestions, and yes, I accept QLAB is very good a t playing audio tracks

However, the ITUNES element of my set up is controlled remotely by the Production Manager who changes the tracks etc etc as the pre-event is taking place, lining up new tracks and skipping etc (using his iPhone) and adapting to the mood.

As such, ITUNES allows for much greater flexibility than a QLAB set up with a custom TOUCHOSC set up going in with FADES and CUE selects being triggered which was an initial suggestion at the design stage.

Capturing the ITUNES "output" into QLAB allows both him and me the greatest flexibility.

I hope there is a workaround for this

All ideas appreciated.

There is a soundflower workaround or 2

1/ Use SF16 or I guess SF64 though ive kept the old SF16 in osx10.9 - set mac output to SF and a Mic cue in qlab to SF.
Route the mic queue to output on 3/4 turn down 1/2  and open SoundflowerBed to route 3/4 to your audio interface and also turn
off 1/2.   Then you should only get itunes via the mic cue so you can turn it down or off

2/ Or create an aggregate device with SF2 and your interface - make sure SF is input1/2 by dragging the tab as clciking the boxes
no longer controls the order.  Then same as above Mic set to SFaggregate but turn down 1/2 and send out to your interface channel 3/4 onwards

Using soundflower make sure youve matched up your clocking and sample rates as the aggregate seems to get its settings from the SF settings
in audio setup.

Wont give you control of itunes as such but that might be possible with scripting?

A script cue to fade itunes out

tell application "iTunes"
set thecurrentvolume to sound volume
repeat while thecurrentvolume > -1
set the sound volume to thecurrentvolume
set thecurrentvolume to thecurrentvolume - 1
delay 0.07
end repeat
end tell

A script cue to fade it back in again

tell application "iTunes"
set thecurrentvolume to sound volume
repeat while thecurrentvolume < 100
set the sound volume to thecurrentvolume
set thecurrentvolume to thecurrentvolume + 1
delay 0.07
end repeat
end tell

Run both in separate processes

Hi,

I created a whole script series for this type of thing a while ago ( for V.2). It presumes that you are using 2 channels of QLab output for your mains, and that is the only place you want iTunes to go. Also that you can set your iTunes outputs (system outs) to be the same as the outputs from QLab. (i.e. ch. 1&2 on your output card for both).

I'll dig up the workspace, but it was basically what Mic has posted with a few extra features. (Starting and quitting iTunes, capturing the initial level and ducking for recorded and live announcements, etc.)

Is this what you were thinking? would this help your situation?

Hi there,

Mic's solution is a dream, but if you do manage to dig up the workspace you created that'd be also great to see.

Any extra functionality might be really beneficial to our shows.

Thanks for your response and solutions

Best

I am in a load out tonight, but I will try to dig it up and make sure it doesn't have anything extra let in it.

Here is what I have.

This workspace will fail if iTunes is not set to open in local music library. If it ttys to connect to the store or has an update pending, you need to clear that so that the script can run.

It Starts by opening iTunes and then asking you for a level for iTunes and setting that. It will track the adjustments you make to the iTunes level, and return to that level whenusing the duck and restore cues.

Both the Duck and restore cues are on Hot Keys of Shift+D and Shift+R respectivly.

The workspace plays the iTunes Playlist "walkin"

I hope this helps - I didn't really get a chance to look at it again too closely. I also haven't tested it in anything greater than os10.8.5 or QLab 2.3.9. Please let me know how it works out for you.
