Does anyone have any experience with the Allen & Heath SQ series? The documentation for the SQ console says that a Mac can be connected to the console's USB port and the console will appear as both an audio and a MIDI device. It says the connection allows for 32 inputs and outputs at either 96kHz or 48kHz.

Does this mean that QLab will see the console as an audio device with 32 outputs, with no other audio interface needed between QLab and the console?

Thanks very much,
-David

That's the way I've been using it - My SQ5 becomes it's own audio interface, plug and play.  You just need to connect the USB inputs through the I/O page like you would the Local ports.

Yeah, I’ve been using SQ5 like that since it came out. Works great!

An FYI: I use Qlab 5 and an SQ6 and the audio integration is flawless.  However, we also use Qlab for lighting, and I have had some weird crosstalk between the two: when you move certain faders on the SQ6, one of the lights in our theatre changes color!  Its very strange and I have never been able to isolate the problem.  I've had to go back to using a separate sound card for Qlab so the two are not connected by USB to circumvent the issue.

It might sound silly, but I cannot find this feature in the SQ-6 Manual, another online explanation, or anything recently on Allen And Heath's website. Any information on A&H's website is old and the page no longer loads. Does anybody have a breakdown of how to actually do this? I have tried patching the USB Inputs and have not had any luck. Am I missing something?

It’s been a year and a half since I worked at a place an SQ but… USB can be set to the built-in flash drive port (SQ-Drive) or the USB-B connection to a computer, but not both.  So you may need to adjust that setting as well.

I didn't end up working on this personally, but the main Technician at our theatre was able to set it up fairly easily as far as I know. The A&H has a USB-B type of jack on the back of the unit, the kind of jack often used in printers. She connected the QLab computer to the jack, and all the outputs appeared. A full QLab audio license is required to use them. I could check with her to see if she's OK with being contacted directly; I don't think she is a subscriber to this group.

see my post from last year with explanation and examples of controlling SQ via MIDI from QLab
Yes USB is the way to go; the MIDI commands are a little tricker to sort out.

Dis you check that the console is in the right usb mode?

You go in setup -> audio -> usb
where you can choose the USB mode between
sq-drive (the mode for a USB key on n the top ifnthe console)
And usb-b (for a computer connected in the back USB-b port)

This made it all click! I stole the cable from my printer, plugged it into the back USB and it auto populated! Thanks so much!
