I'm sure there's nothing I'm trying to do that "save as template" and "new from template" won't allow me to do. I was just wondering if that's the only option (as in QLab 2, it worked differently).
I'm setting up a basic system for undergrads, about 1/3 of whom will have taken my class and know their way comfortably around QLab, and about 2/3 of whom will be shown things by friends, or poke around on their own and tinker. It's surprising how many of them are able to make really exciting stuff with QLab and a basic sound system, of course.
But still, things like "turn off the amps before you kill the console" are hard enough to impress on them. Of course, as I tidy up their existing infrastructure, I'm doing things like making a laminated sheet of basic instructions for system start up and shut down.
But since the basics are still breezed passed in their intuitive understanding of things, I
know that some of them will click File / New instead of File / New from Template, and I'll be getting phone calls about why the sound is coming out of the internal speakers and how to send it to the system instead.
Of course, I can make a laminated instruction sheet reminding them to start new sessions with File / New from Template, but with all the laminated instruction sheets I'm making, I'd just love to simplify anything that can be simplified.
So if the answer was "yes, there's an easy way of making your interface the default device", I would've been happy to do that. And since the answer seems to be "no, there's no easy way of making your interface the default device, but you can use Templates to do something similar", that's fine too. Now I know, and Templates it is.
