We have a Behringer X32. Within the X32, recalling scenes will cause any fader level changes to snap into place. I’m wondering if I can utilize QLab to give me crossfading between scenes. The thought is that we’d save fader levels in a scene/cue in QLab, then when we recall that scene/cue from QLab it would send the appropriate fader levels to our X32 and it would fade into position giving a smooth change in fader levels. Is this possible? I haven’t used QLab before and have dug around a little bit and it seems like it could be possible but haven’t quite figured it out. Thanks.

I seem to remember in Qlab 3 being able to do this with MIDI. I imagine a MiDI script and interface would allow Qlab to automate the X32 faders.

Hey, yes you can do that. There is an extensive OSC Dictionary available for the X32 published here. If you are running QLab 5, there is a network patch type that pre-fills the OSC address for you. Here is a screenshot of what that looks like in practice:

The slight complication is that the OSC argument accepted by the X32 isn't in decibels, it is a floating point value between 0 and 1. The conversion between decibels and a normalised 0-1 representation is covered on page 10 of that document I linked to.

Hope that helps,

Dan
