I have a Roland HD Video Switcher V-1HD, along with a Focusrite Scarlett box. I'm looking for a way to control the switcher using Qlab, it has a midi in and out. Roland provides this guide on midi setup, but it looks different than any other midi setup I've seen. I have been unable to get it to work so far. What settings need to be changed on qlab to do this? I'm using the latest version, with a full license.

First set up Video Mixer as on p2

Try sending pairs of CC messages in fire all groups

e.g to select video input 2 on Bank B

send on your Video Mixer rx channel

control change 0 1

followed by

Control Change 32 1

to select video input 4 on Bank A

control change 0 0

followed by

Control Change 32 3

The AB fader is controlled with

Control change 17. you can do MIDI fades from 0-127 or 127-0 to fade from A to B

Alternatively you can set a time with controller 18 and use controllers 20 and 21 to initiate the fades. You will have to send pairs of MIDI cues to these to press and release the switches

Hello,

Thank you for the answer. I'm still a bit lost on this. I hope this screenshot will help you to help me understand. Im used to using MIDI with Lights only so this is new to me. Can you go a bit more in depth? Thank you so much, were closer than we were before thanks to your comment!

Assuming the MIDI cue I can't see is ch 10 controller 32  value 1 then this  looks correct. I assume you have set the rx channel on the V1 to Ch10
How are you connecting QLab to the V1-HD?

Yes the rx is on channel 10. Its connected via a USB cable, but we have also tried with the dual midi cable.

Have you tried it the other way round, just to test?

Make sure MIDI out is set to out not thru and run MIDI monitor on your mac. operate the buttons and knobs on the Roland and you should see the cc messages in MIDI monitor.

Sorry, I think that's as much as I can suggest without  the unit in front of me.

Anybody can send me a example with Midi Exclusive Message for v-1HD?

There aren't any system exclusive messages needed. The V1-HD can just be controlled with standard musical MIDI

That would be in the V1-HD RC User Guide, and I don't recall seeing that function.

Its there and it is sysex

It involves a checksum calculation which I need to doublecheck for Roland devices. I’ll post the cue shortly

Obviously this is a QLab forum, which is also a Mac only  Program,so it may not be the best forum to get help with interfacing a PC with a video switcher!

I have no idea what Hairless MIDI does but before getting into complex things like sysex, are you saying that if you send a s simple MIDI cc message to the MIDI ch you have set on the VH1 e.g. cc 19 to change the transition style it works as expected, and it's only sysex commands that aren't working?

If your setup menu says the device ID is 00 then change the 10 in the second byte to 00

Yes, when I send simple code, it work.  For example:   SerialSend.exe /devnum 06 /hex "\xB0\x1A\x7F"  - is freeze ON
But for sysEx, I can't find the code... 41 - Roland, 10 - default device, (my is 10?),  x00 x00 x00 - is correct?  x20 is correct for my device?
In SETUP I see only MIDI DEVICE ID =1 (00h)
