I need a way to control QLab by remote but I can't use the iPhone app
since my phone is being used for other things in the show, nor can I
use a MIDI remote since I have the Video and not the MIDI version of
QLab.

I did find a programmable bluetooth presenter from Targus (AMP11) but
it is too unreliable. My Mac constantly looses it's connection. Often
mid-show. I have also looked at OSCulator but from what I can
understand it uses MIDI signals.

I wouldn't mind to use an rf presenter instead of bluetooth, much like
the ones made by Kensington or Logitec, but I haven't found a model
with programmable buttons. The standard presenters only send the arrow-
key commands, which are disabled in QLab so I would need to change
that functionality in the presenter.

This is turning into a real problem for me. Does anyone know of a
reliable remote I can use which is not a cellphone or a MIDI remote?

If nothing else, I might revert to this: http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xkfoot.php
. It probably works well but I would prefer not to have cables running
across the stage. People are bound to trip over them.

Anyone?

Best,
Henrik Fexeus

How urgently do you need this remote? And what features do you need? I may be able to help depending on your requirements and timescale.

Feel free to email me on or off list if you're interested!

David.

The interspace industries stuff is programmable, and very reliable.

I know I am not seeing the entire picture here but wouldn't adding the MIDI license be cheaper than most of the work arounds you are suggesting?

MIDI is by far the most reliable remote method in my experience.

Agreed. And if not then rent it.

Henrik,

I've made some custom solutions out of keyboard emulators and rf
remote pendants (if you need wireless). But as Steve points out, this
is a costly endeavor compared to the midi license. That said, check

There is a little, usually stable program called midistroke that will take MIDI in and output keystrokes.  It will only work if Q-lab is in the foreground, and doesn't always save I/O Settings when you close and re-open it.  But it does work and the price is right.  I wouldn't use it in a show critical application though.
