Hi all,

A few years ago I wrote a little companion app for QLab, called Cue Wizard, that lets you do advanced search-and-modify on cue lists. I finally got round to updating it, adding a bunch of new features, and making it compatible with the latest versions of QLab v4 and v5. It’s available for free from here: https://www.garethfry.co.uk/cue-wizard.

Existing features were: search for various types of cues, or for text within the cue number, notes or name, and then modify by colouring, flagging, search and replace of text, or by prepending/appending text to cue names, notes and numbers. You could, for example, search for all MSC cues and give them a red label and add “LX CUE: “ to the start of the cue name. Or Cue Wizard could search for all audio cues that route to output 7, and show you the results one-by-one without modifying them.

New features include:

  • Copy/Move audio outputs, for example to copy the levels in each audio cue from output 16 to output 7. This is a handy way to move your outputs around, or to duplicate an output to a new output.
  • Reset audio output, for example, if you want to repurpose output 16, you can reset all cues that currently use it
  • Adjust the master level by x dB, for example search for all cues with “VO” in the cue name and turn the master up by 5db.
  • Adjust an audio output by x dB, for example search for all cues with “VO” in the cue name and turn output 15 up by 5db.
  • Search for all cues that have a timecode trigger and copy that timecode to the start of the cue name
  • The QLab v5 version of the app leverages some of the new hooks available there, such as:
  • Search by network output name, eg show me all cues that route to output “DS100”
  • Video output stage names eg search for all cues routed to video output stage name “TV”

It’s customisable, and there are a bunch of presets built in to it (you can also save and load your own presets). Let me know any presets you’d like to see included and I might include them in a future release. There’s a full how-to guide on the website.

I built Cue Wizard for dealing with large cue-lists, and it’s capable of modifying lots of cues very rapidly so always save your cue list before using! ;-)
