If you want to put a mask on a surface e.g to create a soft edge. You go to settings/video edit surface and drag a mask into the mask well.
Your mask should be black and white, white allows video to show, black blocks video, anything in between changes opacity.

You can also use images with alpha transparency as video cues on top of other video cues. These masks should be transparent in the areas you want video to show through.
