This is a bit of a thought experiment, but is it even conceptually possible to play out video from QLab and have the audience receive it via a website (served locally, not via any cloud service) on their devices? Is this the right sort of thing to ponder: https://www.streamingvideoprovider.co.uk/live-streaming-platform/live-video-encoder-rtmp-ezecaster?

If you have a sufficiently linear show (ie: not many GOs), could you play out a video of a sign language interpreter and / or captions that any number of the audience could decide to receive via a multicast stream?

I recently came across this, which seems like a lightweight webserver solution for just text: https://differenceengine.talkingbirds.co.uk/. What if you wanted to stream video too?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I’ve just built something using webrtc on a local network - this was audio only but would be relatively easy to extend it to do video also using a virtual camera. Could be interesting

Audio is another interesting thing: you could then send out audio description from QLab too… What’s the latency like?

We actually built it for audio description- latency was really low (I would say 100ms or less but never did a proper test)

Can set up a demo if you want to try it

Hello, I have built an app that works on the 3 fronts of accessibility: subtitles, sign language video and audio description, to use with Qlab (or another) using osc commands. Everything accessible from users' devices through a browser, they do not need to install anything. We have used it for a long time in our theater (Galicia/Spain), also on tour. If you want to try it, let me know.

Guille I would love to see what you have produced - and if anyone wants to see what I’ve been working on then drop me an email off thread and I can sort a demo. It’s quite an interesting prototype

I also produced a system that sends captions to browser from a timecode source, and a system that locates your device using your wifi strength (and then tied these together for an immersive project)

I’m literally looking for a product to use with a timecode-driven show that can stream subtitles, a sign language video and audio description to audience devices with minimal fuss – so we’d even buy a product if it existed!

The only thing I can’t solve is assistive listening via Wi-Fi as I think the latency is too high for someone who might also be instinctively lip reading – although, ironically, for this particular show none of the characters have lips so I could even do an ALS stream…

Hello Richard, in a few hours (5-7, I'm traveling now) I will send it to your email so you can try it. Greetings
