I have a question on the IOS remote and scanning for workspaces when you open the app up. Our wifi in our theatre has some blocking going on that will not allow me to see all the workspaces on the network when I open the app up. I have to manually put them in as a direct connection. We have a "hard line" network connection for our Ipad that see's all workspaces, but something is getting blocked on the wifi. What broadcast protocol or ports are being used to scan the network that I can give to our IT guys to see if they can allow that port or broadcast thru to see the workspaces correctly.

Thanks
Gary

Are both the iPad and the Mac both on the same subnet? If you go into Settings and System Preferences, are the first three parts of the IP address the same?

Yes, we have our own dedicated audio subnet for all of our own computers. Even the wifi has an SSID that is linked to our subnet.

Hello Gary

QLab and QLab Remote need access to TCP and UDP ports 53000 and 53001.

Best
Sam

Copy. I will see if they can make sure both those ports are open. When I connect over wifi, everything appears to be working though.

I'm confused.  So you have one iPad set up with a wired Lightning-USB, USB hub, and USB-Ethernet adapter and that works fine, but the same iPad doesn't work over WiFi?  Is the WAP part of a larger infrastructure your IT department manages, or an airport or something?

Well the "hardline" connection can see all available workspaces on the subnet right away regardless if they are specified in the "other" area. The wireless connection does not see any workspaces when you first open the app. You have to manually put in the IP address of the mac running qlab. After you put in the IP address under the "other" section and then select it, it's workspace shows up and you can select it, and then everything works fine.
It is just the initial scanning the network to find the workspaces on the network.

Yes, what do you mean by "hardline"?

The apple ethernet / camera adaptor connection trick that was mentioned earlier is what I am calling the hardline. You can turn the wifi off and use the apple ethernet adaptor for network access.

Do you know what the topology of the WAPs and the network beyond your subnet is?  For instance, here we use Aruba switches and WAPs.  We don't allow device to device communication on WiFi, and block any broadcast traffic on it.  That gives the same results you're describing, but I can't narrow down the problem without more information.

We use cisco access points here. Is it a multicast thing that is getting blocked?

Brief due to phone. Discovery is via Bonjour. IT need to enable mDNS forwarding. Suspect same subnet but different VLANs. Same challenge as connecting to AppleTVs via a campus WiFi.

Copy that. Thanks for that info. I will see if the IT guys can work with that info.
