Just looking into Bluetooth Auracast and wondering if anyone has used it in a qlab file for multichannel sound design work.

Reposting this as I'm curious about how auracast is being used and whether anyone has figured out to a solution to using qlab with independent bluetooth channels and auracast speakers.

Speaking only for myself as a sound designer in live theater, and not for Figure 53, I do not consider Bluetooth to be reliable and predictable enough for use in a show.

From what I can see, Auracast advertises itself as having “extremely low latency, under 40 milliseconds” and I would challenge the use of the word “low” in this context. To me, low latency is under 10 ms, and extremely low latency is under 1 millisecond. I would in fact refer to 40 ms as extremely high latency.

Now, I know lots of folks use QLab in different settings. For folks using QLab in a museum or other art installation, or a non-linear themed attraction or escape room, or a silent disco, this latency might be irrelevant! Maybe this is the perfect product for some folks. But not for me!

Best
