Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to output a key and fill from QLab. The key doesn't really need to be a proper key from QLab. I'll be creating it as black and white images that are sent to a switcher as a mask.

My question is, can I use the UltraStudio HD Mini to do this? I can't tell from the documentation if there's any way to map the key output of the device like I would normally with an output.

My alternative would be to use two UltraStudio Mini Monitors to send the two unique outputs.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

There is a command line (experimental) setting to enable a key output in the surface editor. But when I tried this setup it didn’t work, as QLab doesn’t recognise the 2nd output on the UltraStudio HD Mini, so couldn’t route the key to it.

You should be fine with 2 UltraStudios as you will then have 2 outputs to route to. Hopefully full support for the HD Mini will be added at some point, as that would be a great setup for many situations.

Just set Qlab to use the output that shows up from the HD mini. Then open Blackmagic LiveKey and set it to external key. The second SDI will give you the key output you need.

Set your video switcher to premultiplied key and you have a live alpha key for what're type of content you show, gradients and all. No need to use ProRes 4444 or anything
