I have a large project with several songs composed of a number of separate audio tracks. Typically, I output each of the audio tracks through a separate interface channel so I have control of them on an external mixer. In addition, in Qlab I've adjusted the levels of each track over time so the mix on the external console is pretty solid with everything at unity.

However, sometimes we're in a venue with a small mixer and I need to fold all of the audio tracks down to a single stereo mix rather than using a multi channel interface.

Is there a way to automatically create this stereo mix from the individual tracks?

I know I can use the cross points to create a 2 channel mix that runs along side of the individual tracks, but I would lose any adjustments I make on the Qlab mixer. That's why it would be preferable to mix what I would call the outputs of the Qlab mixer rather than the inputs (as it would be using cross points).

Is there a way to do this?

Hi Dave

Check out the routing tab of the audio patch editor. There, you’ll find another matrix mixer which mixes cue outputs to device outputs. You can mix all your cue outputs in whatever proportion you like down to one or two or however many device outputs you like.

Thanks.  That's most of what I'm looking for but there's a detail I accidentally left out.  I see how that can work as long as the stereo output is on the same interface I use for the multichannel outputs.

However, the multichannel interface may or may not be available.  Or it may be broken, lost, etc.  I'd like the stereo mix to be available on the headphone jack as a "last resort" option.  Is that possible?  It seems that cues can only be assigned to a single interface, unless I'm missing something.

You would need to make an aggregate device in your computer's Audio Midi Setup utility. You could then assign your cues to a device comprised of both your interface and built-in output.

I'm assuming that you are not expecting your multichannel device to be broken or lost mid-performance, so you can just select which device you are going to use for the gig beforehand
In QLab4 The device routings are memorised per device so all that is required to switch between devices is to change the Audio Patch and the matrix for that device  is automatically loaded.

In QLab 5 If you going to switch between devices on patch 1, save ALL the  other matrixes you need  in other patches

Then you can change the device in patch 1 and set the matrix from one of the other patches.

Thanks for the note.  Of course you're correct, the goal is handle something that breaks between gigs, not during the show.

That's exactly what I was looking for.  I didn't realize that the routings were stored for each output device.  I thought it'd have to go through each track to change the device, so this makes things much easier.
