Hi, sorry I am quite new to qlab so I apologize if this is a bit basic.
I am about to project 5 movie clips at various times on a screen in a stage play.
I will be using a standard projector and Macbook pro.
I know how to set a basic que list for my movies
After I project my first movie I then need to wait a few minutes before the next que.
Obviously I do not want my que list to show on the (projected) screen during this time.
I just want a blank or black screen without any controls showing.
Is this something I need to set on my projector?

I figured I could just turn off the projector between cues but this might be prone to mistakes and it may be set up a distance away from me.

Thanks in advance for any help with this.

At the moment you only have one screen,i.e. The screen of your laptop. when you add a projector, as long as you have mirroring turned off, you will have 2 screens which work entirely independently.

So your cue list remains visible on your MacBook and the videos appear on your projector.

Oh many thanks. Doh! I guess I should have realised this. I haven't actually tried the projector yet and now I know how to change the projector settings in prefs.
Thanks again.

You'll also want to use Tools - Set Desktop Background to Black. With a two screen setup, your new problem will be that you'll show the desktop in between movies. If you set the desktop background to black, then this won't matter.

If your menu bar still shows here (you probably have mavericks or Yosemite) ... This can be turned off. Can't remember the steps off the top of my head and am on a phone.

You have to disable the separate spaces per monitor option. To prevent mishaps on show machines it's best to disable spaces totally.

it's also a good idea to disable:
  • all hot corners
  • screen savers
  • all energy saver settings that put the displays or computer to sleep (always check these whenever you restart the machine, they sometimes reset themselves)

also check your audio settings. many projectors have speakers inside and will take audio from a HDMI connection. if you are using HDMI, make sure that your system audio and sound effects audio are not routed to the HDMI connection....

As long as we’re going down that route, these are just the tip of the iceberg in steps to make sure that your computer is fully optimized for show use. My teammate Sam posted a guide to important things to tweak on your computer for best performance in QLab, which you can find at http://figure53.com/notes/2013-10-29-prepare-execute-troubleshoot/

Good luck!
