We’ve owned two of those things at my theatre. Once they start working, they work great! But they’re SO finicky.
Ensure that the device is set to default factory settings. With it powered on, and nothing connected to it (DMX or ethernet), press and hold the reset button with a paperclip for like 5 seconds. That will reset everything back to factory settings. You will have to ensure that all the network configurations are correct on your Mac but now it should work the way it’s intended.
Ensure that your QLab compy has its IP settings correct and that QLab is configured to communicate with the default IP of the AN2. Its default IP is 2.0.0.1.
The QuickStart guide on the PDF is
here. The start up procedure has to be followed exactly! DMX lights and fixtures on and connected first, then turn on the AN2, then boot up QLab.
Even then sometimes you have to actually ‘bump’ a parameter on a light fixture to get the thing to see the DMX chain.
All that said… I have found them to be less than perfect. When you need to be able to power up your system, and have it work because the show is starting in a couple hours, you DONT want to be messing around with configurations. …this has happened to me a few times with that device. >=(
If you have the capacity, I HIGHLY recommend against moving away from the AN2. We purchased an Elation ENODE8 for our theatre, and it JUST WORKS. But at a thousand bucks… They’re A LOT more money, but its configuration, and flexibility is far more reliable. It might be hard to afford if you’re looking at using the AN2.
Anyways, if you can get it working, I wish you the best!
