Projector Manager worked - then didn't...

Hi group,

I've always found projector manager very reliable - but just set it up on a show and it worked fine shuttering my four projectors... until it suddenly stopped!

I'd had it working for maybe half an hour, programmed and tested the mute and unmute cues, then it showed as disconnected from all the projectors and remains so.

That's despite:

- can connect to projectors web interfaces, over same network

- no change to setup, including mac network settings.

- restarts of mac, switch, and projectors

Any ideas - or alternatives - greatfully received - the projectors are 3 panasonics and an ultima - I believe I can "send" the web address of the shutter open and close cues to those via an applescript cue telling safari to load the pages, not sure about the Optoma?

QLab directly supports PJLink. No external tool is necessary.

Go to Workspace Settings > Network and create a network patch. Set its type to PJLInk. Set its destination address and port according to the settings on your projector. Make one patch for each projector in your system.

I think the reason for still using Projector Manager is that the QLab PJ Link network connection does not (yet?) support password protected projectors.  In some circumstances, like when using a venue's projector, it is not possible to remove the password. 

Sorry I don't have any advice for the OP as to why PM might have stopped working.

Thanks all for the ideas - I didn’t know about the PJlink option, but am struggling with it too -

Here’s one of the patches - ignore the “Wi-Fi” bit, it’s just because I’m at home not in the venue…

But the 4352 number after the IP address - I don’t know what that is, or where it might factor in on the projectors. They have admin passwords but the PJlink password is blank.

Hi Tim

The 4352 is the (TCP) port number, which with the IP address, defines the service you want to talk to. In PJ Link I think the port number if fixed, hence you can't change it.  (address and port combination are sometimes referred to as a "socket")

With anything network, the first thing you want to check if you can ping the other machine. This established that the network is set up and working. On the QLab Mac, open a Terminal window and type the command ping 192.168.0.7 where that is the IP address of your projector.  If you are on recent MacOS then you may have to enable "local network permissions" for QLab - in Apple menu-System Settings-Privacy and Security -Local Network (if I remember correctly). Sometimes you have to turn them off and on as MacOS can forget them (!).

Otherwise your set up looks as though it should work as there is no PJ Link password. I would double check all the settings just in case.

I noticed a while back that Projector Manager is an Intel application, which runs under Rosetta 2 on M series processors. Rosetta 2 is due to be removed from MacOS in 2027. So I contacted SIGMASIX who developed projector manager and got this response..

"We already started a full rewrite of ProjectorManager for that reason but also to remove all the bugs that are included in the app... We're not sure when we will release the new version but it should be by the end of this year."

So that's good news. Looks out for the new release of PM on the App Store towards the end of the year.
