Hello,

I am working with a Motu MK3 Ultralight in connection with QLab 3 to provide individual control to 4 powered speakers.  I am able to get sound out of the speakers through the Motu connection using I-Tunes but only through all 4 speakers at once. WHen I attempt to use it through Qlab I do not get sound although all the channel evel meters in Qlab indicate there is sound but the master slider does not. I think I have done the patching correct but there is obviously something I am missing in Qlab.

I have a show tomorrow and could use any help I can get.

Cheers
James

Hi James,

To clarify, the master slider never shows a level measurement. Only the individual output channels do,.

This video on the matrix mixer might be helpful as a place to start:

If iTunes is outputting to 4 speakers, then I think you have something funny routed either in the motu (check cue mix software) or somewhere in global Mac prefs (check audio/midi setup), but not in QLab specifically. If all routing was 1:1, you should get sound from iTunes only out of main LR. iTunes outputs stereo only.

Hi James,

The MOTU Ultralite orders the outputs in a less than intuitive order, so you need to adjust for this either in your cable patching, your workspace's preferences (where you can edit the device routing), or in the cue.

The outputs on an Ultralite patch as follows:

1 - Main L
2 - Main R
3-10 - Outputs 1-8
11-12 - S/PDIF outputs

So if you're using the default 1-to-1 routing in QLab, you need to either patch your speakers into L, R, 1, 2 to get cue outputs 1-4, or you need to route the cue to outputs 3-6.

This gets confusing, though, so it's more common to edit it in the device's routing matrix. In that case, you need to go into your workspace's preferences, and in the "Audio" page, click the "Edit Patch" button for your Ultralite, and then go to the "Device Routing" tab. Then you want to route the cue outputs, which go down the side on the left, to the hardware outputs, across the top, as in this attached screenshot:

This will route QLab's outputs 1-8 to the Ultralite's outputs 1-8.

If you need any further assistance, give us a shout at sup...@figure53.com, and we'll get you sorted out!

Thanks!

Eek! I've been in bed fighting off a cold all day, and posted without double checking that I'd pasted in the correct screenshot. The routing you want to route QLab 1-8 to an Ultralite's 1-8 is this:

Sorry for any cold induced confusion!
