Good day all.

I have a group cue that consists of two audio files and then a fade (or
build) up of one of the cues. The designer would like to drop the level of
both files, then fade them down(near infinity), bring back up to the first
dropped level then fade down and out.

I tried just targeting the group and it works for parts of the sequence. One
fade cue tareting the group drops the level by 8db. Then the next drops the
leves out to -100. These two work well simply dropping the master down by 8
then down to the -100 level. Then I run into problems.

The designer wants the files to come back up. I tried the same thing,
bringing the master up to -8db but nothing happens audio wise. I then have
it fade out and stop. I assume it is fading out but I never hear the audio
restore from the fade to -100. It does indeed stop the file from there.

I tried using the group setting differently with no change. Then I tried to
do the same thing by dropping the channels and it works till I try to bring
them back up.

Any suggestions? I am trying to avoid having to program two fades for a
grouped cue. It seems that if a fade cue can drop the levels of two files in
a group that it should be able to bring them back up. Am I wrong?

FYI: As you might have noticed there is a stop target command but it is not
till after the last fade out of the sequence.

Thanks for your time.

Jono

When you fade a group q the fade is relative not absolute. Meaning you
are not fading the master to -8 you are fading the group master down
8db from where it started. So from what you discribed your first fade
is taking the group down 8db, your second fade is taking the group
down 100db (so you are now 108db down from the original level). In
order to fade back up to the original level you need to fade the group
up +108db. However it sounds like you built a relative fade of -8
meaning, you are now fading the group down again (i think you would
now be at -116bd).

Elizabeth hit the nail on the head.

I'll just add that we'll probably change things in the future so that
you'll be able to use an absolute fade on a group. It'll just clobber
all the internal cues of the group and force them to the same absolute
level. But for now, yes, fading a group is always relative, and what
Elizabeth described is why you're not hearing the fade-up.
