Hi everybody,

the powers that be are opening their satchels. hooray...

so now I'm speccing a qlab computer for sound and video. Important: We need 4 Projector outputs (preferably 3gSDI) , at least 2 inputs (3gSDI) and one monitor HDMI. As little Latency as possible...

I contemplated going the Mac Pro route, but I now prefer going the Mac Studio and sonnet echo II DV direction.

the Question: Should I put 2 AJA Kona 4s into the PCiE Slots or 2 Decklink Duos? Are there any Qlab reasons for preferring the Decklinks?

Thanks,
appreciating any $0,02

I don’t believe QLab supports AJA kit at all so you would definitely be better off with BMD Decklink cards - we use the 8K ones in Mac Pros and they are great, bear in mind the outputs are only synchronised if you treat the whole card as a single surface, otherwise they will be slightly out

That’s correct, QLab doesn’t currently support AJA.

(We are interested in adding support, although their relationship to developers was somewhat onerous in the past. However I believe that has changed since the last time we looked and, long story short, we’d like to add support for AJA, although I don’t know when.)

Hello.

Is the Sonnet Echo 2 a thing that can work with QLAB?   I am also looking to seeing more than 3 surfaces and would also like to keep the Mac Studio to do it.  Hopefully not have to go the MacPro route, ( tho its not off the table )

What’s compatible with QLab is the video I/O card itself, not the PCI chassis. If the chassis supports macOS and Blackmagic video cards, you’re good to go.
