I'm new to Qlab 5 and am confused by the automatic workspace bundling.  I saved my first version of the cues file to <showname><date>.qlab5, and Qlab put it in a directory of the same name and created subdirectories for the audio and video files.  So far so good.  Next, I was hoping to make some edits and save it to <showname><today's date>.qlab5 in that same directory so that it can point to all the same audio and video files.  Is that possible?  Is there a better way to approach versioning?  Can I remove the date from the enclosing directory without messing things up?

PS I was also hoping to just email the new cues file to the artist so they can just drop it into the same directory

I think the best policy is to always have the current version of the show saved plain, and use the 'make a snapshot copy of of the workspace before saving'. so you have a complete incremental backup of all versions of the workspace.

if you feel the modification date doesn't give you sufficiently accurate or visible time stamping,  then I would use a script on a hotkey, that writes the current time into the q name a  memo cue at the top of the main cue list and then saves the workspace.

OK, so to transition over to the way you are recommending, is it OK to just rename the directory and .qlab5 file to be "plain", i.e. remove the date?  And if I email the latest .qlab5 file to the artist (without the media files), can they just put it in the same directory on their machine and all the cues will point to the media files on the artist's computer?

Yes to all that.
