When experimenting with Qlab, I encountered a video file that
apparently cannot be displayed in Qlab. Audio is played back
correctly.
VLC, Qt, and preview all can visualise the video.
I open the format information in VLC, and it states:
Video format XVID,
Framerate 23,976000
When opening in Qt (10.4) with Perian, it states
Xvid (perian) 512x364, millions, mpeg layer 3, mono, 48,000 kHz,
FPS 23,98
Now I can (try to) convert the video to another format... I'd like to
know what format(s) are recognized and played back by QLab ?
Friendly greetings,
dd

xvid is actually MPEG4 however the metadata might not be ISO conformant
so QuickTime may not be able to play it.
VLC can play it because it doesn't use QuickTime. Perian contains an
xvid decoder as a quicktime component which is why QuickTime player can
play it. I'm suprised that having Perian installed doesn't allow QLab
to play it, however maybe Perian can't be used on a background thread.

Potentially anything that is supported QuickTime. Although not all
formats can decode on background thread. In which cases you may get no
audio, or no video or it appears to play and you get neither audio nor
video.
In terms of crosscoding try
That ought to be able to consume the xvid file (as long as you have
Perian installed) and output an mp4 via using QuickTime which will work
in QLab.
MPEGStreamClip can also output anything else there is a QuickTime
encoder installed for, best of all it's free.
