Is anybody around you using Matrox Triple Head 2 Go with some sort of HDMI extenders? I have tried an HDMI repeater but i didn't worked. I was thinking about HDMI over ethernet but i'm afraid that it's gonna be the same (bad) result. Has anyone of you tried something that worked to extend the cables from the Triple Head 2 Go?

What style TH2G do you have?
What's not working?

We do this all the time by the way. Yes it works. Quite lovely in fact.

I have a TH2Go Digital SE. The extender just doesn't work at all with it. It works fine with the HDMI out of my camera but not from the TH2Go. I talked to Matrox, they don't have a clear answer. I'm not looking to make my repeater works. i would like to know what has been tried for big length and worked for sure. What brand, what type?

If ....
1) The TH2G sends HDMI out to a local monitor, then the matrix is working.
2) The camera sends signal over the existing run, then the extenders are working.
3) Switching the HDMI from the TH2G to the extenders makes the system stop working?

If that's he case, I would guess it to be an EDID problem (the projector telling the computer about itself). Our HDMI extenders don't transmit EDID.

This is where PowerDesk comes into play. From here you can specify a few EDID setups the matrix will use.

I'm on my phone grilling chicken right now. So that's about as specific as I can get.

If you don't an M computer icon in your top menu bar next to the date time, you might now have power desk installed. Start there. If you do, start noodling around with the settings.

Thank you for your help but as i were saying i'm not looking to troubleshoot. At the low price of HDMI repeaters and other type of devices working to extend HDMI, i'm just looking for a device that have been tested and proven to work with TH2GO.

How far do you need it to run?

30 meters.

I used something like this (http://www.amazon.com/BlueRigger-Cable-Built-Signal-Booster/dp/B005LJQNAG) for a show a few months ago, and it worked great. I don't remember which brand, unfortunately, because I wasn't the one who ordered them. But take note that they are directional cables, so although both ends look anatomically identical, one is for input and one is for output. Best of luck.

Hi Gualicho. Thank you for your help. What length did you achieved with it and how did you distribute the length between the two HDM cables and the ethernet cable? What was your resolution?

Hi Patrick,
i use a 50 meters LAN cable (Cat 5), a 1 meter DVI/HDMI cable between the TH2GO and the TX Extender, and a 1 meter cable between the RX Extender and the projector...
My TH2Go has 3 DVI outputs, and comunicates with my MacBook Pro Retina via Thunderbolt and USB.

Again i hope it helps you...

Regards...

I just had a very similar problem with a Gefen DVI DA and Gefen DVI
over cat5e extenders. The shop I was working with concluded it was an
HDCP problem (though there was no protected content involved)

If I didn't need the extender, the output from the DA was perfect.
If I went straight out of the computer into the extender it worked great.
Through the DA and then through the extender would never work.

Their solution was to add an Image Pro between the computer and the DA
because that would force the computer to not try to do HDCP. I
suspect that there are much simpler devices then the Image Pro that
would do that, but that's the one they had... I didn't use it to
change resolution or anything else...

I'm still not totally convinced that it was HDCP and not EDID, but I
didn't have a good way to test....

It doesn't matter if there is any protected content or not as Mac
always negotiate HDCP a the outset, this is to stop black screens
during renegotiation at the point of playing back the content.

If you've got an HDCP compliant DA then according to the spec if it
can negotiate HDCP on any output then it must enable it and by symmetry
it must disable any outputs which it can't negotiate HDCP on.

There are two sane ways to fix HDCP problems (by eliminating the HDCP)

- Put an DVI->DVI device immediately in front of the computer and
before the DA which is not HDCP compatible so that the Mac never
negotiates it in the first place.

- Convert the output of the Mac to HD-SDI immediately then do your
distro using SDI and coax. Again the doesn't have HDCP so the
DVI->SDI device can't be HDCP compliant.

I was thinking I'd do HD-SDI next time, sound's like that's the way to go.

Is there a way to disable DHCP in software on the mac?

Unfortunately there is no way to do it via software. Kramer have several
useful white papers available for example:

http://www.kramerelectronics.co.uk/downloads/white-paper/hdmi_challenges_whitepaper_3.pdf

Another, hardware solution which is also an EDID emulator is the DVI Parrot

http://www.bromptontech.com/dvi_parrot

These seem to be built in to Hippotizers these days and various hire
companies seem to either supply time as standard accessories for media
servers or as a separate hire item.

I could say what I think about HDCP and the forces that have brought it
about but the result would not be printable.

Thanks Paul!

I've used VGA EDID emulators, but never a DVI one - time to go shopping.

Do you or others on the list have experience with the Gefen or Hall
Research boxes that do EDID emulation? They seem to be much less
expensive, and I'm wondering if they work well enough to use...

The first thing in the chain that the mac output is connected to can 'tell it' to have HDCP on or off - after that other devices downstream shouldn't care.

I use Gefen DVI Detective Plus for this - there is an HDMI version too.  Make sure you get the 'Plus' as it's the only one that will turn off HDMI.  They are as cheap as $50 on ebay.  You will need the power supply to program it - some used ones are missing that.

I've heard good things about the DVI Parrot too, and Kramer's HDMI products are hard to beat.

Do powerup and connect everything. If nothing happens unplug and replug your dvi>hdmi adaptor on the output-Side of thr 3 head2go.
