Are you using some sort of lighting control software to control the
enntec piece, and trying to control *that* with QLab? If not, that's
what you need to do. QLab only does audio and video playback, it does
not have any way natively to control lighting or other DMX-controlled
gear. If you've got another piece of software that can control the
enntec, and can be controlled via MIDI or MSC, QLab can send commands
to that lighting software, which in turn will control the DMX gear.

Not knowing what exactly you've tried, a few thoughts.

1. Enttec DMX USB Pro is a USB to DMX converter. Without an application
that accesses it's function, there is no function.

The only way I'm aware of to control the DMX USB Pro from Qlab is via MIDI
& a PC.

Two ways to do this,

1. Enttec DMX USB Pro & Light Factory 2 run on a PC or at least in Parallels.

OR

2. Enttec DMXIS on a mac.

A quick email to Jeremy @ Enttec should resolve the situation. You'll
either know how to do what you want to do or know that it's not possible.

Hi Shadrx

As mentioned the Enttec DMX PRO only works with a lighting software, my favorite is the Free CHAMSYS withs is running very very very stable with OS Snowleopard, I'am touring with it for almost 2 years in diverend conditions and set-ups. and never had any trouble, just the same as with QLAB !!!!!.
Chamsys can be triggerd by MSC cue's or Qlab can be cue'd by Chamsys. The only thing you have to buy is a Chamsys Midi dongle and then you have a winning combination.
I don't have the ecsperiance yet of trigging both so i'am very interessted in others opionion.

To my knowledge you can use the DMX USB Pro with these programs:

D::Light
http://www.nicole-banana.com/

MiniStageConsole (limited to 24 channels)
http://www.chromakinetics.com/DMX/miniStageConsoleMac.html

But I must agree that adding 54€ for the Enttec DMXIS makes it look attractive compared to these programs.

Hello Roland,

what kind of shows do you control and what are your experiences of using
QLab and DMX software on one computer? I do theatre shows and work with
audio, video and MIDI from QLab, sending MIDI "GO" to my Photon light
desk. I sometimes need to be flexible with the lighting though and
sometimes I have to change some lighting settings and I wonder if that
will not give issues when working on one system without a light desk.
For non live shows I am thinking of buying an USB PRO too though.

Cheers, Wilf

Hi Wilf

I tour with Modern Dance and drama, sometimes do things with heads and party's, did once a qlab video/audio sequence running in the background and cue'd MQ Chamsys the same time on my Macbook, all worked perfect. But then triggering with midi is the future for me.
I looked at the CPU use of Chamsys during show and that was really not worth mensioning, so i gues that running QLAB and Chamsys on the same Macbook won't be the problem, only the amount of videostreams in QLAB will the limitation.

Still interested if someone actually works with both programs running at the same time on one macbook.

Best Roland

PS. [ He Wilf mayby we can work something out together ]

Sorry about not giving enough info,

I am running Snow leopard on a Mac Book Pro
Got Chameleon to test it out with the DMX Box but it doesn't detect
that it is plugged in.
I can not get the midi signals to send to miniStageConsoleMac from
qLAb ( Do not have that much experience with midi controls) ( Any
tutorials or online guides to this would be good)
There is a driver from the enttec site for the box. Have installed( I
think)

Just getting it to be detected by the Macbook would be good?

Thanks for all your help so far!

I've just (last saterday) run a theatre play with following
combination:

on a MacBook 2.26GHz, SnowLeopard 10.6.2

- EntTec Pro -> installed the ftdi 2.2.14 driver from
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

- ministageconsole 1.5.2

- Qlab2.

Configured the ministageconsole MIDI as documented on:
http://www.chromakinetics.com/DMX/How%20to%20Use%20the%20Combination%20of%20QLab%20and%20miniStageConsole%20on%20Mac%20OS%20X.pdf
Important to note in this midi configuration is that ministageconsole
ONLY takes 3-byte midi messages into consideration, but you only
specify the first two (in hex, separated with spaces). some
instructions like "Go" require byte 3 to be non-zero...

Now note that ministageconsole is only handy if you can set your show
on 24 faders !!!!
You could even "get around" this by loading a different show (with a
different patch), activated through qlab -> script.

disadvantage of ministageconsole:
- stil not having submasters.
- loading different scene (in blind) cannot be done through address or
cue number, only "Load Next" and "Load Prev" is available, which
forces you to create the whole show in ministageconsole as well, and
only sending the "Go" from qlab, instead of "selecting the desired
scene in ministage FROM qlab messages".
