Hiya!!

I have just downloaded QLAB 4 (I have only downloaded the version 4, have not yet paid the license). I used up until recently QLAB 2.3.9 with a Pro-video License. All my show files are therefore for QLAB 2.3.9. I am trying to get them working in the new version 4 but the message "The document "The King Lear Session Reboot 2016 and 2017" could not be opened. It contains data that cannot be read" so I reckon it means that files from QLAB 2.3.9 need to be converted to QLAB 4 in order for them to work in the new version. I am looking everywhere for an IMPORT function on the menus but can't find it anywhere, nor can I find on the internet any instructions/tutorial/manuals to guide me through the process of conversion to QLAB 4. Can someone help me? Is this something that doesn't work cause I haven't yet purchased my license or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot,

All the best,

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for this report! I was initially expecting v4 to open v2 workspaces, since I didn’t remember anything that would have made that inherently impossible, but running a quick test I am getting the same result as you.  I’ll file this in our tracker to check out when time permits.

In the meantime, you should be able to open v2 workspaces in v3, and then save them, and then open those workspaces in v4, as a means of migrating up to v4.

You’ll need to manually check the behavior of the workspace since some things change between major versions, but that should get the majority of the programming imported into v4.

Best,
Chris

Hi Andy and Chris,

Thanks for the help. I downloaded now QLAB 3 (last version) and I
managed to open a QLAB 2 file. Then I saved it again and opened it in
QLAB 4. So that is great. Now the problem, is that my video cues are
all broken. I assumed this was cause I had to link the cue on the
video section of the preferences to either a screen or a monitor (like
I normally had to do with QLAB 2 if I was either editing or using it
with a projector), but I cannot find that way of connecting. On the
Video section of the Workspace preferences is a very complicate amount
of options that I didnt have before. I created a Video Surface with
Display (I assumed that is with my Mac Screen, and it created Surface
1 (1440x900, 1 screen). But then I dont know what to do next! How do I
make my video cues not to be broken to see them on my screen? Sorry
about this but its all too much too quick!! Thanks a lot for your help
though, you are being great! I haven't yet purchased the license, but
once I can see the shows work then I'll buy it straightaway! (probably
later tonight!!)

Just to keep the rest of y’all here in the group (and my teammate, Chris) up to date, Marcus has also been in contact with us directly via sup...@figure53.com, and I’ve pointed him towards our swanky updated documentation pages for Video, https://figure53.com/docs/qlab/v4/video/, for all the details on how video works in the current version, and especially on configuring surfaces.

That said, if anybody here has any tricks or tips they’d want to share with him on how to efficiently check and update video cues from v2 to a newer version, please share away! Because of the vast increase in capabilities QLab 3 added to video cues, I don’t necessarily have a better way to recommend than going through and checking and adjusting each cue once you’ve created and assigned a surface to it, but some of you may have found your own favorite ways of dealing with this in the few years since we released QLab 3 that I haven’t thought of :-D

Thanks!

-Andy
