I'm having trouble finding an answer to this seemingly simple question.
I'm dithering between the A&H Qu-24 and the Soundcraft SI Impact.
I'd like to be able to send Scene/Cue changes from QLab to the board.
The A&H has MIDI I/O, which I assume will work to do that. The SI
Impact doesn't have onboard MIDI. Does HiQNet support that kind of
external control?
Any other input on either of these boards for a small university theatre department that does mostly straight plays?

I looked at both a while back. Neither the Allen & Heath or Soundcraft have physical MIDI ports. The Allen & Heath can receive MIDI over either USB or network connections. Nearly everything on the Allen & Heath can be MIDI controlled (http://www.allen-heath.com/media/Qu-MIDI-Protocol-V1.82.pdf) including scene recall. The Soundcraft has no MIDI or OSC control, and whilst I believe you can recall scenes via HiQNet, I cannot think of a way of simply integrating this with QLab.

Hi Dominic -
They have a QU24 and Qlab on an iMac in the large black box over at
the 12th ave Arts facility - I bet you could get in to play with one
for a bit to see how they work. I used the one in the large room for
Our Town last year, and it was a pretty nice combo. It was a mostly
live FX show though, so I didn't need to do much control with it.
Brendan Patrick Hogan was doing a pretty complex show in the other
room while I was there, he could probably give you a more detailed
rundown.

There are very few options for external control of any sort for the SI or Performer series of Soundcraft consoles. No online remote editor for the PC, and no integrated MIDI.

I believe the Si Impact is the first in the Si series to not include MIDI.
