OSC passcode

I am trying to send OSC messages from Qlab to Qlab. However, I cannot get it to work while I have a passcode set.
I have the passcode set correctly in the network tab of the workspace's preferences, but I fear that is only used when it is a "qlab" network cue, rather than an "osc" network cue.

Is there a trick to it? I have tried doing a cue first that sends "/workspace/workspace2/connect PASSCODE" but that doesn't help either.

Cheers!
A

Hi Aden,

I checked the code / ran a quick test and it should be sending the passcode for both QLab and also OSC type messages.

However, one thing I did notice is that it is easy to try to enter the passcode into the network settings and accidentally NOT actually enter it — currently you need to press the “enter” key after you enter the passcode in the network settings to ensure that the code “sticks”. This tripped me up a few times. Perhaps this is the source of your troubles too?

I’ve attached an example workspace file to inspect.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Sorry, I missed out some important information in my first post.
Yes, your example works. However, I am trying to send OSC between two workspaces that are both open on the same machine.

This is the kind of OSC command I am sending;
"/workspace/workspace2/cue/2/start"

but it doesn't work. If I remove the passcode from workspace2 then it does work.

One good point is that your example proves that it is sending the passcode, it just doesn't work sending it to another workspace open on the same machine.

Thanks for the quick response, much appreciated.

Cheers,
Aden

Hi Aden,

Ah yes! You are correct. The “/connect” message that it adds to send the passcode is addressed to the frontmost workspace only.

So you’ll need to either put everything in one workspace (which, generally, is not a bad idea; it’s best to have one show in one workspace) or turn off the passcode on workspaces other than the frontmost workspace.

Best,
Chris

Thanks for this, at least I’m not going mad.

The current set up of the show I’m dealing with is in one workspace, but it has many elements which could benefit from being “modular” so to speak. For example there are different workspaces for the different formats the show goes out in, and it would be great to modify the light cues once, not in each workspace.

Maybe I’ll have to remove the passcode then.

Many thanks for getting back to me on this!
