Hi there,

I've come across an issue that I've been wanting a solution for quite frequently and have always had to find a workaround. It feels like something that there is the framework for QLab to be able to achieve and would potentially not be an immensely difficult thing to pull off.

Feature request:

To create a new type of cue trigger, that can be set as an audio marker point in any audio cue, that when the audio reaches this marker point, you can use this to trigger another cue to play.

Examples:
Quite often I need fades to happen after a certain point in a devamp, but if I am devamping more than one cue, it's not possible to do the devamp and start next cue (and the next cue is a group with the fades in). I also can't do it on a pre-wait as it's a devamp, the timing is variable.

I want a tool that when a certain point is hit in an audio cue (usually post devamp), it can be used as a trigger - in this case, when reaching a new marker after the devamps, it would trigger a group with some fades, to happen.

Thanks for your feedback Pierre!

I’ve added your description to our internal issue tracker for this feature request.

In the meantime, if I understand your description correctly, I think I just cobbled together a way to do this today.

The attached screenshot is my first rapid attempt with no thought whatsoever to simplifying or alternate better methods, but it does seem to work.

It shows:

- Two copies of the same audio cue, each with an infinitely looping section and a mark after that section on which I want a subsequent audio cue to play.
- Two groups that each contain a pair of devamps — the first devamp to stop the infinite loop, which auto-starts the next devamp that will trigger the second audio cue at the post-loop mark.
- A timeline group which starts both devamp groups at the same time.

Playback flow is:

- Play cue 1, playhead jumps to cue 3.
- Play cue 3, playhead jumps to cue 5.
- Wait until both 1 and 3 are in their infinite loop section.
- Play cue 5, and both 1 & 3 will devamp their loop and play "1-90 Shop Door Bell.wav” at the marker time after their looped section.

(I may have misunderstood your goal, though.)

Cheers,
Chris

Hey Chris,

Thanks so much for sharing this - I can see actually that this would work. I think previously when trying to sort it, it brings up issues where I need the devamps to already be 'play next cue when devamped' to start other audio or cues, but running two devamp cues in two separate groups, one to do this and one to start a later fade, would potentially work. It remains quite clunky - devamps are great but having to create a 4-5 extra cue workaround to achieve this every time that I want to do this effect becomes fiddly.

Thanks so much for the suggestion though, I'll have a little experiment and play around with it. I still think it would be a fantastic feature!

Thanks so much
Pierre
