I am running into a strange occurrence with fading a group cue. I have a preshow music group of cues with autofollows. I also have cues that fade the whole preshow group down play a recorded announcement, then fade the preshow list back up.

It normally works well, except there have been times that the preshow list went on to a new song when the preshow group was faded down for the pre recorded announcements. This resulted in the preshow music being faded up much higher than planned.

Is this intended behavior? I thought the whole group would keep the levels of the cues if the whole group cue was faded, regardless if a new file started playing or not. I have added a pause/resume of the preshow group when the announcements are going on to try to stop this behavior.

Is there something I'm missing or a better way of doing a preshow list?

Thanks!
Rusty

Hi Rusty,

The trick to know is that cues reset their volumes when they are loaded, and your group of audio cues is probably not pre-loading all the cues inside it when it plays the first one. Thus, if your timing is unlucky, you begin a fade-up on a cue that was just set to its initial levels, and thus gets much louder than intended.

You can force the expected behavior by forcing all the cues to load prior to doing any fades on them, and then taking care not to stop / unload them before a fade-up happens.

There are several ways to do this but probably the easiest is to check the “auto-load” option in the basics tab of each cue, which will cause it to automatically load when a cue sequence it is part of begins playing.  You can confirm it is loaded by seeing the yellow dot by it in the cue list.

Best,
Chris
