I'm new to QLab lighting and since it's a completely different approach than any classic lighting interface with subgroups(be it software or hardware) i'm looking for a simple solution to my problem.

Let's say I'm using a scene that's a full white stage multiple times and realise mid-show it needs fixing. With subgroups that's easy, just edit a subgroup, but apparently we're not getting those in QLab anytime soon, so what's the best approach here? Selecting multiple cues in a sea of other cues during a show might be difficult either for batch editing or copy-pasting the values. Should i just make one cue and every other time i need to use it just use the "start" cue and target it? Then i'd just need to edit the original one.

Thanks in advance.

Make your wash as a cue, say cue A. For each instance, program [channels]=cue A. Each instance will reference the original cue.

The problem with "pull" function is that I'm often changing the patch since it's a travelling theatre, so it would basically mean pulling all 512 (or usually at least 100) channels. Is something like "mass pull" possible or do you have to set each channel individually?

Hello burnthefires

I think I can help, but I have a few questions also:

First of all, when you say “subgroups” I’m guessing you mean what ETC calls submasters, is that correct? A single proportionally controlled group of lights?

Second, I’m not sure what you mean by "apparently we're not getting those in QLab anytime soon”… we have no public roadmap, so I don’t know how you drew this conclusion. I think you’ll find that we are very responsive to constructive feedback from the QLab community. The more we learn about how people are using QLab and what they need, the better.

Now, to your point most directly, I’m not sure what you mean by “mass pull” but I think you can make use of the built in `all` light group. Here’s how:
  1. Create a cue which has the look you want. make sure it includes every single instrument in your show. let’s call that cue ‘A'
  2. For every cue that you want to copy that look, use the command `all = cue A’
  3. If you ever need to add instruments to your show, manually add them to cue A.
  4. The cues which pull from cue A will automatically reflect that change.
Please let me know if this works out for you.

Best
Sam
