Hi everyone,
I am trying to trigger a cue on Mac 1 from Mac 2 over Wi-Fi using QLab 5.5.10 on both machines, but it is not working. I feel like I have used this exact setup before successfully, so I might be missing something simple.
Here are my network details (pings are successful, the Macs can see each other):
  • Mac 1 (Target): IP 192.168.0.33 | Subnet 255.255.255.0
  • Mac 2 (Sender): IP 192.168.0.34 | Subnet 255.255.255.0
  • Router / Gateway: 192.168.0.1
Goal:
I want to trigger Cue 200 on Mac 1 by firing a network cue from Mac 2.
What am I missing in my configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Let me know if you're missing informations.
Thanks a lot,
Pace.

Missing passcode (look under OSC Access to see what it is on the machine you're sending the command to) would be my first guess.

I just noticed you're in Audition mode on one of your machines. I just got burned by this today because I forgot to change network cue behavior (under the Audition mode settings) to "leave cue unchanged". That could also be it.

First of all on Mac 1 configure to be able to receive OSC commands. Check “Allow OSC connections”. If you don’t want to enter a passcode, check “No passcode” to view, Edit, Control. If you want security into your workspace, put the passcode in network Outputs on Mac 2.
Important to put the OSC Listening Port on Mac1 will be the same on port networks outputs on Mac 1.

Hello inapago !!!

Thanks for trying helping me. But I've checked everything. I really don't get it. I'm used to make it to work in 30 seconds.  I'm gonna try with raw OSC.

It's becoming a really frustrating.  I've tried with static addresses by cabled network with no more success.
I guess I'll have to wait for the right answer... hoping it's coming soon...

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hey, all I can offer is that *sometimes* I've had to remove every other means of the mac(s) connecting to a network before they deign to go the way I want - but that's always been more like disconnecting wifi so they use a cable connection, rather than your way round with trying to make Wifi the means of connection...

So, in case it helps, try disconnecting / removing every other network connection from the Mac if you can... one pipe only!

Anything else on the network at all?

Best of luck!

On Mac2 (IP address 192.168.0.34), you need to open the Terminal application and test the connection to Mac1, which has the IP address 192.168.0.33.
You can do this by typing the following command in Terminal:

ping 192.168.0.33

If both Macs are correctly connected to the same network and can communicate, you will see replies similar to:

64 bytes from 192.168.0.33: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.5 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.0.33: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.4 ms

If the Macs are not physically connected, are on different network configurations, or communication is blocked, you may see messages such as:

Request timeout for icmp_seq 0

Have you tried changing the network patches to use the specific network interface you've used to connect your macs, as opposed to just using "automatic"?

Hey!

What version of MacOS are your computers on?

I find when sending network cues and it doesn't work, it's because some computer permissions aren't allowed.

I always have to go to Settings > Privacy and security> Local Network and toggle on QLab, otherwise network sharing doesn't work for me but I believe that's only available for newer OS.

Hey!

Glad it worked!

I will caution you- when you shut off the computers/ reboot them or sometimes when they fall asleep, you will probably lose connection again.

Go back to the same place and even though the toggle says it's on, turn it off then back on again (usually only on the control computer). That fixes it 99% of the time for me.

Good luck!

Victoria
