As a first step, check out MultiVid and MultiVidController software by Marco Tempest. Haven't tried to trigger it from QLab, but it might get you on the right track.

Oh, apparently it accepts OSC, so there's your trigger problem solved.

Hey nizer, did you get MultiVid working on an iPad? I have no problem with iPhone & iPod touch but my 3rd gen iPzd crashes when opening the app each time :(

That's good news Mic, what iPad model and iOS version are you running?

Apple 9.7” iPad Pro - Wi-Fi + Cellular - 256GB – Space Grey, MLQ62B/A
Apple iPhone SE 64GB , Space Grey MLM62B

iOS11.2.5

Mac MultiVid 2.2

A reminder of the OSC protocol, which you send to your devices (not MultiVid)

Set up a network patch for the IP of your iPad port 5056

Commands
/MultiVid playMovie:movie_name.mp4  or .m4v or .mp3
/MultiVid pauseMovie:all
/MultiVid resumeMovie:all
/MultiVid stopMovie:all

Big thanks to Marco Tempest for keeping this app updated (3.3 released 2 months ago)

Hi,

Does anyone know if this is a complete list of OSC commands for Multivid? I am trying to find a command that replicates the 'Reset' button on the MultiVid Controller software, that loads the first frame of the video but doesn't start it playing.

Thanks.

Not to my knowledge – it would be extremely useful to have a “reset” command as at the moment I have to repeatedly fire the first cue (which is a black video clip). It’s not 100% reliable either.

Thanks,

Nic

Straight from Marco-who wrote multivid- the last time someone asked if those 4 commands were the complete set

Thanks for the replies guys. It is a shame there is no reset command, I have a work around where I send a play then pause 100ms later but it's not 100% foolproof.

Cheers.

I’m wondering if we might be able to work it out as the Mulivid desktop app obviously sends a reset command. If anyone has some kind of data packet software, perhaps the can see what’s being transmitted and copy this? (Just a thought)

Multivid desktop app talks to multivid iOS apps using TCP

If you look in the preferences of Multivid desktop app you will see an option to send play messages using OSC, but they are the only OSC messages that can be sent.

Hey everyone, I am trying the same thing and the OSC commands work, basically. But the MultiVid app on the iPad seems to do weird things with the playmodes. Clips seem to do whatever they like. Sometimes they stop at the last frame, sometimes they don't. Does anyone have experiences with this?
I can not use the Desktop app, because it is not compatible with the lastest OS.

Thx in advance,
Hendrik

Have a look at TouchViz  as an OSC controlled video player on iPad/phone . It can be used with external video output  and has 2 channels that can be mixed and blended, master color and level controls, and tons of video effects all under OSC control.
