Moving Head Projector with Qlab

I'm putting together a project which is going to use a Robe MiniMe moving head projector with Qlab.
I need 24 channels of DMX or ArtNet to control the projector.
It seems a bit excessive to use a whole lighting board to receive MSC from Qlab just to do that.
Does anyone know of a small application that might work alongside Qlab to give me the 24 channels of control I need.

Thanks

Mic

Because it's what I had available, I used an ENTTEC Open DMX unit with the free software QLC.
I controlled it via MIDI. Wasn't terribly hard.

I think there's an extension of the software QLC+ that can handle OSC, Artnet, and can be run on a Raspberry PI ???

I've not used it but Kineme has Art-Net Tools for Quartz Composer. Should work with an Entec USB to DMX converter.

Try lx console
It has midi and osc connectivity

I would second LxConsole.
I just downloaded it. Very intuitive and very quick.
It also has a effects sequencer.
I made cues and controlled them via OSC with Qlab in under 5 minutes.

The same man also makes a free lighting plot software that I've used one smaller productions, LX Free.

And on top of it, it's free. Quite impressive really.

Unless they've fixed the software since last I looked at it I would not trust with more than 24 channels. Far too clunky(noting the irony as I suggested Quartz). True for most laptop based solutions I've seen. Also notoriously unstable in general.

Pity ETC does not allow it's offline editor to work for playback, or a QLab DMX feature…

Well ETC does have a solution but it is Windows only.

Well then, one should proceed with care I suppose.

In terms of paid softwares there are also:

Though I've never personally tried them.

The etc nomad (new version of the offline editor for Eos) with a proper license would probably do this...
My license for 256 output is on it's way, but it should look and feel just like the console. You can supposedly use fader wings also. Runs on mac and PC...

Then I am mistaken. I had thought the Nomad was windows only. Curious if it can be run in the background on the same machine running QLab.

My experience with DMX control is any time you step away from ETC, Strand, GMA, or Hog you are in for a world of hurt. And that's being generous. Stick with ETC and GMA.

Bearing in mind I have 1 fixture with 24 parameters I don't really want to look at solutions costing 1000s of bucks.

Chamsys magicQ with magicDMX seems to offer a ridiculous amount of functionality for 20 bucks.

Anyone tried this?

Sure. But arguably all the more reason to have the solution reliable and repeatable. Chamsys should be fine for your needs.

The new nomad software with dmx output is exciting! However it is not clear if the eos side of the software has any way to resive msc or osc
Without a show controll gateway? Making it still a costly option

I have used Lx console for a number of small touring shows ( only 30-50 channels and all generrics ) triggered from qlab . I have found it verry stable in running shows and am yet to have had a problem. I have had the odd crash in production. And occasionally it drops connection to qlab on startup but this is easilly restored.
But the software is free and simple to use and intergrates with qlab better than any other I have found. Including scripts for exporting ques direct to qlab.

The support for this free software is fantastic ( I have had several feature requests added within days of requesting )
I have only ever found that level of surport from one other company.!!!! ( fig 53)

Hi Mic,

I've been driving LxConsole via OSC fromQLab to control MadMapper, projectors and many other small single channel and multi-channel DMX devices for some time now.  I've found it to be very reliable and easy to use.

Cheers

Reviving this older thread - has anyone used this new Nomad software? Knowing whether it would receive MSC/OSC (especially from the same computer) or not is what's slowing me down from buying a dongle at the moment.

"Nomad also plays well with OSC (Open Sound Control) controllers, and when running the Cobalt application, supports connection to third party USB-MIDI panels via Direct MIDI."

I also know that the next version of the EOS family software should include OSC.
