I'm new to QLab and am very excited about the potential for my application... but I've run into a problem early on in the process.

I've added all of my video and audio files and even tested them out on a external computer monitor... which works perfect.  Today, I tried connecting to a "live" situation by connecting to a projector... but got nothing from QLab.  The videos are playing using the audition window, but I'm not getting anything on the projector.  I do see the desktop image from my computer on the projector display and can adjust the display settings that I see on the projector, but nothing from QLab is displaying on the projector.

I actually connected to another projector... and still nothing.  (Naturally, I'm changing the settings in QLab to select that as the video surface.)

Went back to my computer monitor (Sceptre X9WG)... and it works perfectly.  Please help me figure out what's happening.

Thanks in advance!
Tim

What version of QLab? What license do you have installed?

did you close the audition window before trying cues on your projector? the audition window (deliberately) hijacks output, so if it's open when you run a cue, that cue will not play externally.

Running version 3.0.9 with the Pro Video License.

Also, wanted to mention that I have tried with and without the audition window open.  When I create a new display surface... and add the project to that surface, I click on the "show grid" and it does not display the grid on the projector screen.  It does when I connect to my Sceptre external monitor... but nothing on the prior mentioned projectors.  Very strange.  Seems to confirm that QLab is not making to the output when connected to the projector.  But again, I can see my desktop background, mouse, etc on the extended desktop.  ????

More information...   Just connected the projector again (Sanyo via VGA) and tried repatching, reconfiguring, etc and thought I would see if I could add a partial screen of the display to the surface... and it works!!! I can click the "grid" button and I see the grid on the projector screen!

So I can take 2 partial screens and assign the left side and right side and get the full picture.... but when I try to simply assign the entire screen to the surface, I get nothing.

?????

Tim, would you try something simple that I mentioned (in a different context) a few threads down?  The first time you connect and repatch a different external monitor to QLab, save the workspace and then quit and relaunch QLab before doing anything else.  That has eliminated the missing video for me every time.

Thanks Dave... but I tried that yesterday. I saw your post on another thread and thought that might be my fix... but it didn't work.

Did you see my last bit of info? If I split the screen into 2 halves it works... but not of I just assign to the entire screen.

I did see that, yes.  I have a Basic Video license, which must have single-screen surfaces, and so I always get either all video or none.  So, it is interesting that partial surfaces/screens seem to work properly but full-screen surfaces sometimes don't.

Hi Tim,

Was mirroring ever enabled for this screen in system preferences?

If you create a brand new workspace does it work?

No mirroring was not enabled... but I did go in a mirror output and I do get the mirror image on the projector as is should.

And after your suggestion, I did create a brand new workspace and get the same results.  The projector is recognized and if I click on the "grid" for that output, I get nothing.  If I create a new surface and add that projector to the surface and click on "grid" I get nothing.  But as I've already discovered and mentioned, if I assign a partial screen (i.e. 2 wide) with that projector, and click "grid", I see grid on half of the screen.

So long story short... still nothing new! :(

What model of projector? What kind of video cable are you using? Any converters? Same of different cable as your monitor?

Hi Tim,

Can you send us a copy of your console logs, in case there's an error happening somewhere that's causing this issue? Go to Help -> Contact Support…, and check the "Include console logs" checkbox. If you can create a workspace file with a working half-projector surface and a non-working full-projector surface, that may help as well. If we find any clues there, we'll post an update on the list for posterity.

Also, when you say you get nothing, is QLab rendering anything at all to the projector, even just a black backdrop? Or can you still see a desktop background or other application windows where the video should be rendering?

Cheers,
Sean

Just sent the console log that you requested.

When I say nothing, I mean the desktop background is still shown.  But... if i go to Tools > Blackout desktop background   it does black out the desktop, but still does display the video when i fire a video cue... just remains black.  Going to attach a couple of photos that will hopefully help.  If you notice in the pictures, the "grid" button is checked on both.

Hey Chris...
I just upgraded to 3.0.11 on my main machine and started having the same video display problems again.  QLab would not display my videos on the external display.  Again, I could split the screen and I could get it to work.  I reverted to the 3.0.10b4 and it's all good.  Did the changed that you made for b4 not make it to 3.0.11???  I just assumed that it would have.  Let me know.

Thanks,
Tim

I have the same problem with version 11. Quitting and restarting Qlab brings it back up.

Hi Tim,

I'm currently trying to find a spare moment to dig in deeper on the surface-patching issues. (Have not had a chance to do any coding for a while, blech.)

Just wanted to let you know not ignoring you, I just need to get more familiar with this part of the code to be able to dig deeper.

Hi Hugo,

You replied to an email from 5 years ago, since which time we've released a whole new version of QLab than the one discussed here. If you're having trouble please email us at sup...@figure53.com describing the specific problem and what version you are using and we'll be glad to help!

Best,
Chris
