I want it all to show but just not in the full size of the projectors throw. This would keep me having to change the projectors distance from the screen when the screen is too small to hold the larger image hitting the screen.

Couldn't you resize using the corner pins on the surface? Might take a bit of tweaking to get it even without distortion, but it should get the resize you're looking for.

Hi Mark,

Screwing around with it I discovered you can Repatch the surface to another available monitor and it deletes the surface. Strange, but it did get rid of the old surface.

Why strange? It's important to be able to re-map screens that are no longer connected.

You can do this by pulling in the shutters on the surface editor. (They're not obvious, sorry about that.)

Hold your mouse near the edge of the surface and you can pull shutters in from the side to limit the area where the video will go.

But that's cropping, not scaling, right?

It crops the surface, so full-screen video cues go to the reduced surface size. So, it's both - cropping the area within the projector's beam, and scaling the videos (if they're full-screen).

And actually, it looks like the shutters will scale the video to fit your cropped surfacel which provides an easier way to scale your video without distorting it.

I would have through the shutters would crop the video. I guess you have to use a mask for that.

Ok, so what is the difference between the two adjustments? Shutters and Corner Pins. They both adjust scale, I guess Shutters just works straight and Corner pins does angles and keystone?

Yes, and also shutters can affect multiple screens while corner pins cannot. For example, if you were blending two projectors onto one surface, the corner pins would be used to adjust each projector to match the other, while the shutters would be used to control the crop and scale of the entire surface. So when I used QLab on my most recent production, I used the corner pins to line up the grids from each projector, then used the shutters to cut off the edges of the grids exactly where the edges of the screen were.

Hi Mark,

(And everyone.)

Please remember to take a moment to review what you're quoting in a reply. People who get digest emails (or are just trying to sift through the list) will thank you. It takes a few moments to select extraneous text and press the "delete" key. It helps keep the signal-to-noise ratio high.

Thanks!
