Hello!

Over the past couple weeks I've noticed unusual behavior of video cues in the audition window.

When opening the workspace on my laptop with the venues output settings still in place, I see warnings on all of the cues. When opening audition, the warnings go away and I am able to fire the cues using the audition button.

Audio cues and video cues that reference still images play as expected. However, video cues that reference motion video do not play. They appear in the Active Cues pane, but their output doesn't appear on the surface preview in the audition window.

The video files are ProRes 422 Proxy mov files that playback as expected on the venue's video screens via MiniDisplayPort.

Mac OS: 10.11.3
QLab: 3.1.22

Thanks in advance for any insight the group may have on what's causing this.

I've noticed this behaviour when moving or resizing the audition window. Clicking on the "fit" button normally fixes it.

This happened to me once a few months ago, and if I remember correctly, there was some mismatch with the audio patch in the audition window. It might have been set to an audio patch that wasn't being used.

My thanks to you both for your suggestions.

I just tried both using the "Fit" button followed by adjusting the audio patch.

Looks like the audio patch took care of it. Having audio routed to "No Output" on the first patch (the only one I'm using on this show) caused the video not to play.

Once I changed it to built-in output all was well.

Kind of odd, as I was under the impression the Audition window was supposed to intercept all video and audio patching.

This definitely gets things back up and running though!

Thanks again for your assistance.

Interesting. I wonder whether this is a bug or the intentional design of QLab?

It’s the same logic as a cue that is broken in the cue list — if the cue has an invalid setting (e.g. “I don’t know where to send the audio in this cue”) then it can’t / won’t play.

The audition window does intercept the video and audio, but it intercepts it in the sense of it overrides the output, which in the case of the audio must still be to send it to a valid audio device.

The thing I was thrown by was that a video-only cue would be impacted by the audio patch, but it seems to work consistently now that I understand how it's working a little bit more.

Thanks!
