Hello all,

How is it possible, that Finder does play a .wav file correctly, but QLab doesn’t accept that file in anyway? Says it is an invalid audio file.
The file does play on a different QLab system though.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi Kay,

Most WAV files should be playable by QLab. There might be some issues with files that are generated improperly, but that should be rare, and is not likely the case if the Finder can play it.

Have you confirmed that it's actually saying it's an invalid file, or is it simply showing a red X? (The red X will indicate a cue is broken, but it may be for a number of different reasons.)

Best,
Chris

Hi Chris,

it says it's invalid, but QLab does not accept the file by drag drop. Yes red x is also displayed, but I can't repair it.
Yes the finder is playing it. I tried to replace it by the file from the backup, but no chance. Only one file in a long list.
Thanx.

In this case it's possible that it is one of those rare cases where the file is malformed. Have you tried "cleaning" the file by opening it in an audio editor and re-saving it or exporting it to a different format like AIF?

Chris

Hi Chris,

I imported it into Ableton and exported it as .wav again, now it's accepted.
I must say that the files were not made by us, but by a composer of the play.
Still strange though, that the file I copied from a working QLab system by USB Stick on the new system is not working. Finder and Quicktime do play the file normally.
The difference is mainly that the old one is Snow Leopard with QLab 2.3.5 and the new one Lion with QLab 2.3.6 and now updated 2.3.7 (both didn't work).

Thanx for your help anyway!

best

Kay
