Hello

I’m finding myself charged with using QLab for video more and more and wanted to ask a question that seems basic in its approach, other than there are so many cues to deal with.

I have a bit over 700 still images in this project. They are set up as video cues, and are directed to one of four projectors. It’s a fully licensed QLab 4 rig on a well appointed Mac Pro. These title screens are PNG files exported from PowerPoint. In most instances I want the cue being triggered to stop the previous cue. Rather than manually adding a stop cue to each video cue is there a way to script this reasonably or something within the triggers section that I could do and then fancy paste to many cues at once? I was hoping either a script already existed, or some other efficient way of handling a bunch of cues at once.

At the moment everything works fine, but if I can’t automate a bit of this process it will be hard to deliver this on time. Any input on this most appreciated. On a smaller show I might just do them all manually, but this time the quantity of cues is going to get me learning about scripting or the like so I can get this done. Thanks in advance for any input.

Cheers,

create the fade in and fade out commands if you can you can crossfade on two png then select all copy and paste until you have all the 400 steps for your show then drag the png corrtoo on each step replacing the previous I assure you that it is a fast system in the theater I do several projects of this kind and with a little practice becomes a fast and safe procedure

In QLab 4, we introduced the ability to fade and stop other cues based on context when a cue starts, in the Triggers tab:

Select all of the cues you want to change, and make the change in the inspector. Another relatively recent feature is batch editing, which makes these kinds of things quite easy.

You’ve almost got it there. Select a cue, go to Triggers tab, and check “Fade and stop peers,” set a time, and copy cue. Then highlight all of the other cues you want to perform this action, do a “Paste cue properties,” and check “Fade and stop peers” under Triggers. That should do the trick.

Good Luck!

Ah yes, no need to even copy/paste. Batch editing = lightening fast!

When I’m doing more broadcast-ey playback where QLab is replacing something like Playback Pro, I go as far as to add these Triggers to the cue template. Then I can drop video or image files in and have the proper settings applied.

It’s a real time save!

Thanks folks! Your collective nudge in the right direction got me sorted out. I’ve got the show totally programmed and it’s a hoot to watch. I think it will be good. It took a large cup of coffee and a day free from interruptions so I could focus and power through it. Now on to rehearsals and changes and all that fun stuff.

Related to this--what is the full scope of "fade and stop peers"?  is it just video opacity and audio level?

Hi Aram,

Yes, that’s essentially correct.  Fade cues will also stop fading audio levels or audio effects during the “fade and stop” period.  (Currently this is equivalent to what happens when a cue is told to panic.)
