Hello again

QLab 4.6.8 is now available for download from our website here:
https://qlab.app/download/

Everything I said about 4.6.7 is still true, and the issue we discovered in that release has been fixed.

The little problem with Notes remains. Since that is only visually annoying and does not prevent QLab from working properly, we felt it was better to release now and solve that later, rather than wait to release until we fixed that.

In-app updating via “Check for updates…" isn’t active yet, but will be shortly.

Thanks everyone for your patience on this.

On behalf of Figure 53,
Sam

I would just like to mention that it is a 15Mb software and it is amazing that you manage to keep it so small. Proof of the nice work I think.
👍🏼👏🏼

Great job! Got it running on my new M1 Mac and it all works as it should : )
One question thou, when will the app be written for apple silicon rather than running rosetta 2? When I inspected the app it still says:

Type: App ( Intel)

But when inspecting QLab remote it says:

Type: App (Apple Silicon)

Will this happen on QLab 4 or is that transition happening with QLab 5.0

All the best and keep up the great work of yours!

Hi Erik
One question thou, when will the app be written for apple silicon rather than running rosetta 2?

Rewriting QLab 4 to run natively on Apple Silicon is an impractically complex task, so QLab 4 will remain an Intel-native app running via Rosetta 2. As you’ve presumably already seen, though, it runs perfectly fine in that context.

QLab 5 will be Apple Silicon-native.

Best
Sam

Great work!

Any timeline and expected features (NDI? :D) for QLab 5?

Best,
Ruud

Not that we share publicly 🙂

It is hard to make reliable predictions so we avoid attempting it; a public prediction ends up being quite stressful because (especially when it comes to timetables) it will almost definitely be wrong.

So Qlab 5 being Apple Silicone native... will it run cross-platform on iOS devices with USB C like iPad Pro?

Hi Charles,

No, QLab won’t run on iOS.

Since iOS has a lot of differences from macOS, we aren’t able to cross-compile QLab to run on both macOS and iOS as-is.  (One way to think of it is how would all the windows and UI concepts in QLab translate to iOS; QLab Remote uses an entirely different UI and is a separate codebase.)

Best,
Chris

Unless, I have misunderstood  how this works, It has only been the case  that IOS apps can run on MacOS11 on M1 chips. I don’t think  there was a suggestion that  iOS devices will commonly be able  to run MacOS apps

You have that right: an iOS app can run on Apple Silicon Macs with minimal adjustments (usually) but macOS apps would have to be rewritten (sometimes entirely) to work on iOS, regardless of whether they’re Apple Silicon-native.

Hi Sam,

Will Qlab 5 run on Intel hardware?

I assure you that as soon as we are ready to tell the world about QLab 5, we will do it :)
