Working on a project where I will be using a number of Text cue’s.
I have used text cues many time before with no issues however on this occasion I am having difficulties.
If I enter 4 lines of text either by typing the text in or by copy and paste I am finding that only lower two lines display when looking on the Display & Geometry tab.
Any help or advice will be welcome.

QLab 4.1.7
MacOS Sierra 10.12.6

Are you saying there is no scroll bar to see the other lines?

No micpool, I can see all the typed lines in the Text tab of the Text cue but only see lines 3 & 4 in the Display & Geometry tab of the Text cue. When I hit Go only lines 3 & 4 show in the Audition window.

The scroll bar is visible.

Thanks for getting back so quickly.

Can you post a workspace with one text cue that exhibits that behaviour, and a screenshot (shift-cmd-3) of your display and geometry tab.

Hi Mic, I really appreciate your help with this,

I have attached what you requested, it’s not the exact workspace that I am working on but does exhibit the same problem.

You're welcome but I am baffled. Your workspace works normally for me in QLab 4.1.7 in both OS10.10.5 and OS 13.1.3.  Something seems to be causing your text to render with additional linefeeds, but I can't think of anything that might cause this

What's the screen mirroring icon to the left of the time machine in the menu bar?  If you unassign the screen from surface 1 (with the - icon in the surface editor) and switch to audition window in the windows menu,, does that change anything.

If not, just send your test workspace and your screenshots directly yo support from the QLab help menu.

In the meantime, perhaps if someone has  OS 10.12.6 running on their machine they could quickly open your workspace just to check it's not an anomaly in that OS.

Hi guys,

I'm running 10.12.6 on my machine, with QLab 4.1.7.  The cues render normally for me in both the Text tab and in the Display & Geometry tab.  Doesn't appear to be a 10.12.6 issue.

Screenshots attached.

Hi Folks,

Thanks M2

Mic - the icon is for air display, I use it occasionally to display thing on my iPad from my laptop.
Tried your suggestion to display only to the audition window it behaved just the same. Also tried assigning to a Syphon surface it was also just the same.

I will contact support later on when they will be in the office.

I have been trying other “things”!!!

Did a reboot on my laptop.
Tried the workspace with the problem with no success, it behaved just as before.
I opened a new workspace, modified the Cue Template for Text Cues from the default text settings to Ariel, Regular, 24 and that has worked.
I opened the workspace (the one that i posted) with the problem and mysteriously it now works fine.
I opened the workspace that I had the original issue with and now it is working fine.

I will go through this again to see if it is reproducible.

……and here was I thinking I had some understanding of technology.

***SOLVED***

I have found out why but can’t work out the how!

A few weeks ago I had a look at QLab 4 Alpha 2, I have been opening QLab by using the workspace icon and it was opening the Alpha 2 version!
When I launch QLab 4 from the Launchpad the open the workspace all is well.
When I double click the workspace icon, QLab 4 Alpha 2 opens and the problem shows up.

A problem of my own making! or a learning experience!

Sorry folks and thanks.

Jim

Yes, that would explain it. There were a few text oddities in that build which were  fixed in 4.2. alpha 3.

If you have multiple versions of QLab4 app on your machine, e.g during an alpha/beta testing phase or if you have workspaces from existing shows you want to use in the  old version they were created in while doing new shows in the latest build, the safest way of opening a workspace is to right click and select open with.... This will give you a list of QLab4 apps with their version numbers regardless of what each version of the app is named.named.

After installing beta versions you can  set all QLab workspaces back to using the normal full release version, by selecting a workspace, getting info, selecting QLab 4,1,7 as the program that will open that workspace and then clicking change all,  You can also change individual workspaces to open under different versions by changing open with without clicking change all.

Then if you want to try the  beta, either launch it explicitly from it's icon or right click the workspace and select open with...

When programs were slow to load and most had splash screens it was fairly easy to spot which version of a program you were using. These days when programs open so fast that even if there is a splash screen you don't have time to see it, perhaps  discreetly displaying  the version number in the status bar is a good idea. Very few programs do this, but for instance in Resolume Arena where even different whole number versions of the program look almost identical, the version number in the status bar is a helpful indicator, and makes it really easy to double check screenshots to see which version of the program is being used.

FWIW, this is one of the reasons I enjoy using the Launcher window that was added to v4; shows a nice confirmation of what version I’m running right at launch.
