Hello all,

Today we've started a Facebook group for sharing QLab ideas and asking questions. Please feel free to join and share your expertise there, too.

Thanks

What does that add to this forum, other than excluding those of us who don't use Facebook?

I agree with Rich.  Why reinvent the wheel?

Wow - how rude!

There are plenty of people who don't know about or use 'this forum' - are they not similarly excluded - who can benefit from the knowledge of QLab users.

It was an invitation for friendly, helpful people to join and help expand support for QLab.

There's no need to take that tone - peace!

Hum,

I'm not on Facebook but I have a vague memory there is already a QLab group there, I think?

I recall we asked at the time from the person who organized it if we could become the admins of that original group since the state of IP law in the U.S. is unfortunately fairly picky about managing uses of trademarked material.

Perhaps if that group still exists it would be best to consolidate into that one instead of making a new one?

Apologies if I am misunderstanding how Facebook groups work, I deleted my account a number of years back and I'm afraid I have not kept up with how it has evolved.

Cheers,
Chris

Liam,

I think if you look back through the forum, you’ll find that Rich, along with Mic Pool, has done rather more than most to be helpful to QLab users and to Figure 53: he’s also very friendly. You should understand that there are some of us, me included, who regard Facebook with a high degree of suspicion and would rather not use it.

Regards,

John

Facebook search returns only one group with the word QLab in the title - although of course I won't be able to see any hidden/closed groups.

Thanks,

John

Hi everybody,

Wow, a lot of passion here today, which is much appreciated! As my teammate Chris said, we do have an official presence on Facebook, which you can find at:

https://www.facebook.com/QLabSoftware/

We would generally prefer that any QLab oriented discussion on Facebook happen there, rather than spreading it out between multiple groups and pages.

(There was, previously, a “QLab Mailing List” group on Facebook, which is the group started by somebody else that Chris was referring to, but that’s no longer active, and will not show up in searches now.)

That all said, our support team has our hands full monitoring support requests sent directly to us, along with this list, so we can’t really guarantee that we’ll have any official presence at any other Facebook groups, and in fact we do our best to direct any support-type questions from our official Facebook page to sup...@figure53.com for the speediest reply.

Rather than growing a new community there, then, I would strongly second the suggestion of directing people you know who are not already on this list to this list, instead. They can either subscribe via email or, if they prefer visiting via a web browser, just join and read/post at http://groups.google.com/group/qlab

In addition to the fact that it insures that our entire support team will see any questions or concerns when they're posted, since we do regularly monitor this list, it also means that there’s “one source to rule them all” when new users are looking to find advice from other users, rather than a number of different forums spread over the internet.

As Rich notes, a group on Facebook does exclude a large number of people. As much as many of us who do use Faecbook like to think that everybody in the world uses it, there’s a large portion of people who, for one reason or another, choose not to. We’d prefer to encourage discussion of QLab to happen in an open forum where anybody can find it, like this list, rather than splintering some off to Facebook’s walled garden. I'm a member of a few other industry groups that have both email and Facebook "versions", and all that the Facebook group really does is mean that there are now two places you have to try and keep up on what's been posted, instead of one. And it makes for lots of double-posts, since people tend to post the same question in both places to make sure they get answers quickly.

Liam, I will reach out directly to you shortly because, if you do decide to go forward with the group on Facebook, there are some intellectual property concerns we’ll need to address, as Chris mentioned earlier today.

Thanks again to everybody who makes up this passionate, generous, and amazingly talented community of QLab users…without you all, QLab wouldn’t be half the incredibly powerful tool it is today!

-Andy
