In the streamed QClass that Sam taught a while ago he talked about how it can be a problem to tell what a given cable with a USB C connector can actually do, and recommended a tester that was pretty obscure and a bit DIY (though it works great)

I ran across a recommendation for this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DYJL5Z67

Wondering if anyone has experience with it?

I got one of those this spring. It’s pretty good for what it is. It can not necessarily tell you the wattage rating for power delivery, and doesn’t verify that the cable does what it says it does (keep in mind that not all cables have the chip inside that has all of the data).

But for many things it can do the job well.

USB cables are so cheap it hardly seems worth paying for a tester.  (and the one in the link is unavailable).  Better to  carefully buy the right spec cable plus a spare or two, and not to pick up and try to use random cables from around the venue. Keep a known good UBS cable plus a spare with your audio interface /web cam/other devices.

Blackmagic has a speed test program that will help find the funky cables. Write x amount of data to a disk and back then rates it suitable according to the media you want to use.

Found a usb c cable that wasn’t up to snuff, given to me, ironically, by the video guy.
