Hopefully I'm just not looking in an obvious place. How can I see incoming timecode values? I'm sending MTC to Qlab from an SFX 6.2 machine and I'd like to see the incoming timecode while I'm programming, and also so that the operator can get visual confirmation that MTC is up and running. Is this display available in Qlab somewhere?

Hi Drew,

There is currently a feature request for a MTC display. http://tracker.figure53.com/qlab/ticket/398. I am not actually 100% sure but I don't think that you get an indication of MTC input in Qlab at all. You can get an indication of it coming in using Snoize's MIDI monitor, but the monitor only sees the quarter frame messsages, and will not display a readable clock for you.

As an alternative you can get an external MTC display of some description.

Have a look at
http://shop.punchlight.com/product_info.php?cPath=132&products_id=52173032
http://www.bonsaidrive.com/mif3.html

Both of which will display incoming MTC for you, unfortunately they are not particularly cheap!

You could also consider using a DAW and syncing to the external MTC and using the clock on that as a visual reference.

Regards,

Fergus

Hmm, that's unfortunate and neither of those will actually solve the second problem which is confirming that Qlab is getting MTC.  In either one of those solutions it could be possible for the external clock or the DAW to be getting MTC while something is causing Qlab to not get the incoming stream.  I'll probably end up programming a few deadman cues that fire on test MTC.

I've got a Qlab tower running backstage in this venue running 3 channels of video and in most of the shows it's just getting MSC to fire the video cues, but for some of the shows that run almost completely against Timecode it makes for sense to just send MTC to all machines that need it.  The system is configured so that the show operators have a second monitor at the FOH position that is on an 8 Channel KVM switcher/extender so that they can switch through the associated remote systems and check on all of their status.  SFX 6.2 is running FOH and has a dedicated display.

Fergus is correct; currently there is not a mechanism to display incoming or outgoing timecode. I wish to add this.
