Variable speed for Audio Object ?

Hi all,

I'm building a spatial audio piece in QLab 5 where an Audio cue's object moves back and forth along a path (drawn in the Objects tab of a Fade cue). I'd like the object to move slowly at the start, accelerate through the middle, and slow down again at the end — basically an ease-in/ease-out on the movement itself, not on levels.

I tried setting the Fade cue's Curve tab to a Custom Curve shaped exactly like that (slow-fast-slow), but it seems to have zero effect on the object's actual speed along the path — the movement stays perfectly linear/constant regardless of the curve shape I draw. Levels fade correctly according to the curve, just not the position.

Is this expected behavior — i.e. does the Curve tab only apply to level/parameter fades and not to path-based object movement? Or am I missing a setting somewhere?

If the Curve tab genuinely can't affect path speed, is the only native way to get variable speed to break the movement into several shorter Fade cues chained with different durations (short duration = fast segment, long duration = slow segment) to approximate an acceleration curve in a playlist group? Or is there a cleaner built-in way to do this that I'm not seeing?

Thanks for any insight!

Clément

Hi Clément,

Thanks for your question!

This is indeed the current expected behavior — it is not currently possible to vary the timing over the path.

We are interested in adding this capability in the future and I’ve added your feedback to our internal tracker for that feature.

Hi Chris

Thanks a lot for the quick and clear answer, that confirms what I was seeing. Really glad to hear it's on the radar for the future.

Thanks again

Best,
Clément

In the meantime, check here :)... I managed to do with with OSC Queries and tying it to a video object I think:
