My project involves scoring a show in Finale, then exporting the .aiff sound files to use as tracks.

Finale has no way to mark specific measures that will show up as slices in QLab.  I have explored Audacity's capabilities but haven't found anything yet that shows up as slices.

Can anyone recommend a simple—and preferably free/cheap—audio editing app that can add markers that will translate to slices in QLab?

Thanks!
Dale

Twisted Wave

Although you should remember that Qlab has no way of saving any adjustments you make to the slice points within Q lab to the original file.

There is a case for saying that leaving the original file without markers and only using Qlab to set slices is more straightforward.

Thanks—yeah, after looking at Twisted Wave, I think you're right about just doing it in QLab—I'm going to have to count and click in either setting.  Might as well do it once.

Personally, I blame Finale for not being everything I need it to be.  ;)

For what it's worth, If I remember correctly, when I drop markers into files using Sound Forge they show up in Qlab.  Makes it nice sometimes when you want to line things up as I find it easier to really zoom in and be accurate with finding zero crossings in Forge.

Of course I'm working in PC land not Mac OS, except to run QLab.  So I have no idea if the Mac OS version of Forge does the same thing or not.

I don't think it would be worth the extra step just to put in markers but I do probably 3/4 of work in just Sound Forge so it makes the most sense for me.

I know that Logic X will export markers that Qlab can read. Maybe Garageband X will too? They’re very similar.

Just to confirm Garageband will print markers that Qlab3 will see - use the arrangement ruler. I usually export
the audio in sections and just use devamps rather than reload into a second program unless the sections might
need to be changed later
