Hi Everyone,

So I'm using Q-Lab to run audio tracks in rehearsal. As the show will be running entirely to timecode it would be really useful to have the timecode displayed as we run playback. I have a Timecode Clock and will use Qlab to generate LTC to send to it. But is there anyway that when you skip to say 1 minute into the track that it will also skip the timecode cue ahead to that point and so when it runs it's in sync?

Basically I'm looking for the timecode to be related to the audio track.

Don't know if I've expressed that very clearly but hopefully someone will understand what I'm trying to achieve.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

If your timecode cue has a post-wait time, you can use the “load to time” tool to load it to a particular time.

Thus, for example, if you have:

• AUDIO CUE, auto-continued to…
• TIMECCODE CUE with post-wait that is the same duration as the audio cue

Then you could load the audio cue and timecode cue together to the same time.

Obviously the way you’d want to do it depends a bit on your cue programming; it might be better to just have a separate timecode cue with a long post-wait that you can load up to some time separately from other cues.

At the end of the day you’ll need to load the timecode cue to a time for this, whether using the load-to-time slider or some other mechanism like a load cue or OSC message. There is not a way to have a timecode cue “sync” to an audio cue directly.

Hope that helps,
-C

PROVIDING YOU ARE VERY CAREFUL (timecode is a great signal source for destroying speakers and audience ear drums) you can embed timecode with the audio file as an additional audio track. Then the LTC always follows audio however you jump about in it, exactly as it did when striped on tape.
